I am looking at getting one for my wife, but it doesn't say in the quick start guide how to enable the speakerphone. Can someone with a 420G tell me how you turn the speakerphone on and off. If she has to go through a menu or a sequence of buttons she wouldn't want the phone. Her current phone has a dedicated speakerphone button.
I've got the 420G. Like the previous poster said, you turn on/off the speakerphone feature with a softkey when making or receiving a call, but it's the center softkey, not the right one, and there is no menu to navigate; just press the center softkey, which has the speakerphone icon directly above it.
Also, I have not had any trouble browsing with the 420g on TMobile in my area. Haven't tried it in other places yet.
A Quick Start Guide came with the package, but I'm looking for a genuine owners manual from LG. For example, when there is a signal, there is a small "E" situated to the upper left of the signal bars and I do not know what that "E" signifies.
I believe the "E" means the phone has "EDGE" data service available. I don't know this for a fact, I"m just guessing.

According to new-phones.net, "The LG 420G will be a dual band GSM 850/1900 phone with bluetooth and EDGE." Obviously a pre-release review, but seems to indicate that the EDGE technology is being used on the 420G.
I just bought a tracfone lg420g for myself at Family Dollar Store for $15. Package said it included 10 minutes and didn't say anything about DMFL. I activated it with just the included 10 minutes and it said "The TracFone you have activated contains our Double Minute for Life benefit" and put 20 minutes on the phone.
I also ordered an LG220C for my wife from the tracfone web site because it has the dedicated speakerphone button. It showed up on the web site when I put in my zip, but all the other phones were GSM. All of the phones in the local stores are GSM including the one I bought for myself. Will I have any problems activating the CDMA phone? I wanted to get the CDMA for her to double our chances of getting a signal when we are traveling together.
PS The LG420G I bought has a number that ends in P4 which from reading here I think means AT&T. Is that correct?

I was thinking about this also. Yesterday while trying different kmarts for the elusive $15.99 LG600g I looked over the LG420g. All the stores had them for $19.99. None of the packages mentioned DMFL. I thought it wouldn't make sense to buy one when the ones available at the Company site are DMFL at the same price. Maybe now they all come with DMFL no matter where you buy them?
I bought one from TF site last week and it came with a DMFL card. Is there a way to check if the phone comes with DMFL without adding airtime to it? I am waiting for an AT&T SIM card before activate the phone.
-If you activate a Tracfone by calling and using a CS you only get 10 minutes. If you activate online you are given 20 minutes.
-When you do anything with Tracfone expect to get things you were not meant to get and also not get things you were meant to get, they make mistakes both online and by phone, sometimes in your favor and other times in their favor.
-A CDMA phone can be activated anywhere it can receive a signal. Whose signal it receives can make a difference, as Verizon is prefered. If a CDMA signal is not available at your home you may have to activate it at work or at a friends house.
-If you can look at a GSM phones packaging you will see either a 4 (AT&T) or a 5 (T-MOBILE) near the end of the part number.
-If the phone has DMFL, the model number on the package will end with DM. Here is how to determine if your phone has DMFL: http://thejmart.com/dmtest.htm

Thank you for this information. This means I can look at the package in Kmart/Big Lots/Walmart to see if it has DMFL.
Just thought I would report on my experience with Bluetooth on my LG420G. Haven't tried much, but was able to send pictures taken with the camera to my pocket PC using bluetooth(don't have bluetooth on my desktop PC yet). Was also able to get MP3's from pocket PC to the LG420. Was able to play the MP3's on the phone, but haven't tried to set MP3 as ringtone. Should work as default ringtones seem to be mp3. Haven't tried to get any java apps from pocket PC. Will do more playing, but don't have much time now.

Was at Target this afternoon, the T301g TF is not ended with DM even though the package advertise DMFL features. The part number ends with GP4. Mabye TF changes their part numbering system?
Did just a little more playing with bluetooth. When I get MP3's from my WM5 pocket PC to the phone, they do show up as selections for the ringtones and I was able to select and use them as ringtones. There is only a little over 8MB free for saving pictures and MP3s.
Also, there is a selection under Contacts(then Settings) for Send Contacts by Bluetooth. When I try it, the phone thinks it was sent fine, but my pocket PC says "Failed to save. Data may be invalid." My suspicion is that my WM5 pocket PC just doesn't know how to handle a .vcf file or expects a .vcf file to be formated differently.
Go to the tutorial on jimates.com. Be sure to do it before you power the phone on for the first time.
Last Friday, I rec'd my 420g with DMFL Card and it ALSO says P5...hmmm. Yet, on "http://thejmart.com/links.htm" I fail to see how to switch to ATT. I just activated today before seeing this forum. I've had a Nokia 1100 for several years that has been great; the only reason I got the LG is for Bluetooth hands-free calling in my car...and I want it to get a signal in as many places possible while traveling across the country, so T-Mobile is bad.
Can someone direct me a bit more?
Also, I cannot locate a car charger anywhere, either...I'm beginning to think I'll be returning this phone--I've delayed transferring service from my Nokia (which gets as good a signal as any phone anywhere--how can I detect it's service?) until I've tested the LG thoroughly. At least it does pair with my car, and transfers files with my Mac, but vCard xfers to the LG omit non-mobile numbers, and I cannot find any mods for this on the phone. Dumb.
Does your MMS and Data work? If it does you're OK with the TMOB sim onless you also have reception issues. One of my kids has a MOT W376g with TMOB and everything works. Sometimes it s hit or miss with the TMOB sims.

Not sure whether this is answering my post, but I'll respond anyway. I haven't really field tested the signal yet outside my room, where I get 4 bars...I rarely text, and I'll NEVER press the browser button if I can avoid it...but BT does work with my Mac, though not in a way that will be convenient for xferring contacts/numbers.
Boston has pretty decent T-Mobile coverage, but I'm hoping to drive across the country soon, and I have family & friends in remote areas, in the northeast, midwest & northwest.
I just ascertained on www.wirelessamberalerts.org that my LG 420g is indeed on TMOB, and my trusty Nokia 1100 is on ATT, and the latter gets great reception wherever reception can be had...but it doesn't have Bluetooth.
Perhaps I should have gone with the LG 220c and hoped for Verizon...they bought up the regional carrier where my family lives, so who knows? (my brother wanted an iPhone, but had to settle for a Droid). Maybe the trusty Nokia won't get a signal there anymore.
