Looks like the $10 gift card is for your choice of 25 fast food restaurants (Burger King, Subway, etc.).

I bought a BT USB for my computers. I finally figured out how to get my computers to recognize and add my phone , but I cannot get the phone to connect.

The T-Mobile-activated 420G is fantastic. Went to DSL Reports' mobile test site to test the speed, it reported 130 kbit/sec. I'm not complaining.
    T-Mobile since July 2005.

what software are you using to connect your pc to the phone?? One of the earlier posting in this thread, a user is using a program called obex commander to connect their pc to the phone. I got mine to work with that program using my laptop's bluetooth. do a search in this thread for obex commander, hope you can find that posting that might help you??

First time posting here First i just wanted to say this website has fantastic information. Upon reading i have learned that it probably best to have AT&T over the Tmobile. I am getting a phone that will be used mostly in zip code 11224. I think that is covered by Verizon. If that is the carrier should i keep that or try to switch to an AT&T sim card? Also another thing i saw is that tracfone has free shipping on orders of 19.99 or more but if you use the code 23444 for 3 dollars off would that void the free shipping? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to the site!

Your zip code in Brooklyn would result in a phone that will activate on T-Mobile, if you purchased one from TracFone's web site. But being in the city, I don't think you would have any issues with any carrier. Although there were some past (and well publicized) issues with AT&T's data network in NYC because of all of the iPhones in use. Chances are, if you went into a larger retail store (Walmart, Target), the TracFone packages there would have P4 on the white label on the bottom of the package, indicating it would activate on AT&T. The packages that will activate on T-Mobile have P5 on this same label.

Thanks Edwardp I went to my local Sears and they had them on sale for 14.99 plus a 10 percent discount making it come out to 13.49. I checked the bottom of package and it had a P4 after the number and it said double minutes for life on the package. Now i just have to find a nice case and car adapter and i am all set

Verizon runs on CDMA phones (no SIM card). AT&T and T-Mobile run on GSM phones (SIM card is used).

When you order from Trac the free shipping is based on the order total before any discounts are taken.

There will be some cases where T-Mobile is best or equal to AT&T, every one needs to ask around locally if they want to be sure.

if the provider turns out to be unsatisfactory then you are allowed to order out of your zip code (to be sent as a gift, or where the phone will be used the most). Refurbed phones work well. A refurbed Tracfone, bundled with a 60 minute card can be had for less than you can buy the card alone.

    Security codes

Hi all, I'm very new to cell phones and really don't know much about them. I purchased a new LG420G from tracfone. it didnt come with any manual, save for a quick start book, and very incomplete instuctions on LG's website. I'm wondering how to change or set the security code for the secret note fuction.
And what is the browser function?

Thanks from a new cell user.

How can you read it on the small screen? When I try to do it, I press the "down" volume key and the background changes to black with "1 Message." It doesn't let me actually read it on the small, external screen. Am I doing something wrong?

No units deducted subsequently when re-reading those messages via the menu w/flip open.

HOWEVER, I then did a test sending 3 successive SMS's and DID NOT READ THEM on the cover, just to see what would happen, and how many units would be deducted. On the cover, rather than a single message notification, a folder icon appeared and "3 messages". Pressing the rocker, words to the effect of "Open folder" appeared...but that could not be performed from the closed cover display. I opened the flip, went to the messages menu, Inbox, and saw three new individual messages. I selected the earliest (3rd from the top of the list), which did not open the message, but provided some perfunctory details, and the choices: "Options - Retrieve - Back" which I found odd, since my previously "cover-read" msgs. offered the choices: "Options - Reply - Back" within the menu access (AFTER they had been read on the cover). Not sure what the usual SMS behavior is, but I later discovered that these 3 unread msgs. were being treated as MMS, not SMS...strange. Not one to frivolously burn units, but willing to test, I selected "Retrieve" this one time...it then asked for confirmation (nice feature), and I pressed "Yes". "1.00 Units deducted" WHAT? A WHOLE UNIT?! Then (some details may not be 100% accurate, but close) I had to press something like "Read" and again, "0.50 Units deducted" WHAT? I THOUGHT SMS ONLY COST A THIRD OF A UNIT! Well, having lost almost 5 X the units I had anticipated, I decided to delete the remaining two unread messages. Upon closer examination of the "retrieved" test message, it appeared very different from the "cover read" msgs...they were small white text on dark background, whereas this "open flip retrieved" msg. was a larger black font inside a white box. Details revealed it was MMS. WHAAAAA? Why would either reading the msg. on the cover display, and/or collecting multiple msgs. before reading make any such difference? Of course, sending from a PC via www.txt2day.com probably has something to do with this, but ALL test msgs. were sent by this method!

My advice is to quickly scroll through each test msg. AS IT COMES IN, rather that to collect and read later. As a rule, I'm not a texter, but if I can read an SMS for free, I'd prefer that to a voice mail.
