How To: HTC Hero Flash to Cricket with Talk, Text, Wap

    KCOS

HELP!! That was what i needed for weeks. I was pulling out my hair trying to get wap to work on my Sprint HTC Hero (cdma) that has been flashed to Cricket. I kept going over and over again with QPST, CDMA ws, and all the setting posted by Ryan and brandonharrison. I could not get it to work and I never could get that little EV or 1x icon. So I started flashing roms and crashing my phone LOL. I was sure I bricked it a couple of times too. Well long story short this worked for me , and maybe for someone else. I also thought it was cricket not enabling the web. I call them so many time to refresh my phone. First off with Ryans settings the ##778 doesn't work with Android cdma phone right. We have only the ##3282# thing to get into EPST setting, and all those A-key, and unauthenticate, reauthenticate well we need to be able to set these right from our phones. I found a way and it worked. I would not use QPST to get wap. I would only use it to flash your phone to cricket. Using brandonharrison instructions with a couple of changes if your carrier is Cricket. Also there is a faster easier way but it cost $99 CDMA ws . Not the 2.7.

    By Brandon Harrison (www.howardforums.com)

    Step 1: Talk and Text
    What you need:
    a. CDMA Workshop
    b. QPST
    c. HTC Diagnostic drivers for the Hero
    d. A Windows PC with either XP or Vista running in 32 bit mode (64 bit will not work)
    e. Cricket's 01039.prl -- (NOTE: I used 01042.prl)
    f. Your HTC hero and USB Cable

These can be found on Google, or on Brandon’s link

    1. Once you have all of the items above installed, go to your number pad on your HERO and dial ##3424# and hit Call. You will see a screen come up on the HERO called the "DM Command Service."
    2. Now, plug in your phone via the USB and your computer should install the necessary drivers. These will be the drivers mentioned above.
    3. Once they are installed, open QPST Configuration, Listed under the QPST Folder on your start menu.
    4. Click Ports, then click "Add New Port". You should see a port in the left part of the window. If not, unselect the button that says "Show Serial And USB/QC Diagnostic Ports Only".
    5. Select the port and Click OK. There may be several ports, so repeat this process until you see a port where it says "Surf..."
    6. Take not of which port says Surf, then open CDMA Workshop. Do not close QPST Configuration yet.
    7. On the right side of the window select the same port as was in QPST with the word "Surf..." next to it and click "connect".
    8. Click on the Security Tab on the top of the screen and click "Read" under the SPC/User Lock, ensuring that the default setting is listed in the drop-down menu.
    9. Select the 6 digit number it generates and copy it.
    10. Go back to the QPST Configuration and click on "Start Clients" and click on "Service Programming".
    11. It will come up with a window displaying active phones. You should see one, the Surf....(whatever). Select it and click OK.
    12. Click "read from phone". It will ask you for an MSL/SPC Code. Paste the 6 digit code you copied earlier and click Ok. In the settings tab you will see a box for the MSL/SPC code. Replace whatever is written in it with six zeros (000000) NOTE: For Cricket users change to (333333). Click "write to phone". Ignore any errors that occur.
    13. Click The CDMA Tab. Under Directory Number enter your 10 digit cricket number.
    14. Click The Display Tab and type "Cricket" in the Banner.
    15. Click the Roaming Tab and click "Browse" under the Preferred Roaming box.
    16. Find and select the 01039.prl (NOTE: Cricket users 01042.prl) that you downloaded.
    17. Click Write to Phone on the bottom. Ignore any errors that occur.
    18. Unplug phone and dial *228.

Voila! You have a Hero Flashed for Cricket for Talk and Text! The *228 may not work the first time but try it two or three times.

Then he has you do this to set wap on your phone dial ##3282# fill in settings.

    Active Profile:1
    UserName:yourtendigitnumber@mycricket.com

    Second Home:68.28.31.12

    AAA shared cricket:cricket
DSA:I left this as it was all worked right

Slot Cycle Index:0 can leave as default but changing this to 0 will let you get messages and calls faster
    MCC:310
    MNC:00
    ACCOLC:2
    Vocode disable
Home Orig:Voice 13k also can leave as default but voice 13k is way better than EVRC or anything else

so after setting your PST settings click menu>commint modifications
let the phone restart,, after restart you should get the little 1x at the status bar of your screen if it doesnt appear check the status of Mobile Network if its off turn it on if its on and you should get the 1x on the status bar

also if like me your trying to get web to work download anycut or
better cut anycut is free to me both are the same. So open up any of the two and make a shortcut of proxysettings by going into activity (wait since its trying to get all activities) than look for proxy settings all the way at the bottom,, after that click on the shortcut that you made from anycut/bettercut and for hostname write: wap.mycricket.com and for Port write :8080 Voilaaaaa! anywhoo if you used the PST settings and used anycut or bettercut your web should work right

!!!!!also on a last note if you do the anycut shortcut before getting the 1x at the status bar in other words getting mobile network connection your browser wont work so make sure you edit your proxy settings after getting any network connection.

    Thanks Brandon
NOTE: If this works for you your done, if not follow me. You will need to root your phone. You can go to www.unlockr.com which is how I did it. Or to
http://geekfor.me/new-release/fresh-kitchen-105/. Easy to root with Fresh Kitchen. Now he has great roms to, that you can use after you root but I would just use the kitchen to root for now. Why because he’s roms won’t get you the ##778# that we need for Ryan’s settings. One thing, I was using one of he’s roms and because I was, I updated my radio and you may need to also, here is a link for that http://geekfor.me/hero/radio/radio-242010427/. Thanks flipz. Now this radio is ok to use with the rom I want you to flash. Here is the rom link http://android.modaco.com/content/ht.../#entry1234558. Thanks Damage. Now I do want to say that this rom is a little buggy at first. If your new to flashing roms it may not be for you. It is very fast. But you can flash more roms after we get all the wap settings we need. Phew almost done. Follow to the letter with Ryan’s settings. (NOTE : I did change a few words and it’s ##778# and 333333 not 000000)

CRICKET PST Settings Thread! by Ryan Mogul

    5. Now open the phone and dial ##778# (PST/EPST), now click edit and enter six zeros.(NOTE: Cricket users 333333) Now go to AKEY and make sure its blank, nothing there. Now click and goto NAM settings, NAM name should be Cricket, Mobile Directory number should be YourTenDigitPhoneNumber, MIN1 should be that other phone number the MSID/MIN that is usually not your phone number, but it should be 7 digits, ex: sevendigitnumber, MIN2 should be just your area code. MSID/MIN should be 10digitMSIDnumber <--again usually not yourphonenumber, This part I only know for USA users MCC should be 310, MNC should be 00 (for other Countries you have to look this up), NMSI should be your MSID/MIN (XX10digitnumber<--usually not your phone number) THE XX'S should be zeros, ex: 007185548692, Now if all these settings in this paragraph didnt need touched assuming you didnt skip any of my steps (which they shouldnt be touched i am just making sure) we can move on.

    6. Go to CDMA settings, we are going to make sure they are set right and change a couple things for Clearer voice transmissions, people will compliment how good your phone sounds even in some cases. EVRC should be set at Disable, Home page should be Voice 13k, the Two below it the Same Voice 13k.

    7. Go to modem settings, change slot cycle index to 1, This will make the phone ring a little sooner, also get your texts a bit sooner. The other 4 options should be Auto, Auto, Enable, No in Order from top to bottom.

    8. Go to Security, now we are changing this regardless you must do this, we are going to Unauthenticate you and Re-authenticate, it is a Needed step everything in this How To needs to be done and Not skipped! Change the HDR Auth User ID to something bogus like Boat@amail.com, the password below it make it something random but remember it, now do the same for PPP user ID and password but make them the same as the HDR ones.

    9. Go to MIP Settings, Make sure Active Profile is on 0, MIP mode should be Simple IP only, MIP reg retries should be 1, MIP reg retry timeout should be 2000 ms, MIP pre-reg timeout should be 30, Mobile Node HA auth should be Disable, send a reg request should be Enable, dormant handoff to disable.

    10. Go to MIP Default Profile, Enable profile should be ENABLE, NAI should be yourtendigitphonenumber@mycricket.com, MN HA SPI set should be enable, MN HA SPI value should be 12c, MN AAA should be enable, MN AAA SPI value should be 2, reverse tunneling should be enable, home address should be 0.0.0.0, Primary HA address should be 68.28.15.12, secondary should be 68.28.31.12, HA shared secret and AAA secret should be cricket <--lowercase, DMU public should be 0, MN Authenticator should be 0.

    11. Go to MIP customer profile 1 and make sure Enable profile is DISABLED. Now do the same with the other 4 profiles (profiles 2-5), make sure that the only profile enabled is MIP Default Profile.

    12. Ok now click menu, ok and let it reset, but make sure not to do anything we are going to be going right back INTO EPST, so when it boots back up open the Phone application and dial ##778# (PST/EPST), we are going to re-authenticate you its easy, now click edit and enter six zeros (NOTE: Cricket users 333333), Go to Security, now change the HDR AN Auth to yourtendigitphonenumber@mycricket.com, password should be cricket<--lower case, same for PPP user id and Password make them same as HDR.

13.Go to MIP default profile, make sure the HA, and AAA shared secrets are both cricket<---lowercase, then click menu OK and let it reset.

Thats it! PST settings are perfect for CRICKET, you have a Local EVDO prl file installed, and you are Authenticated for Data and EVDO .

(NOTE: you should now have EV or 1x icon to use the wap you need to down load anycut or better cut anycut is free to me both are the same. So open up any of the two and make a shortcut of proxysettings by going into activity (wait since its trying to get all activities) than look for proxy settings all the way at the bottom,, after that click on the shortcut that you made from anycut/bettercut and for hostname write: wap.mycricket.com and for Port write :8080

Thats done, every Custom ROM flash from now on should never affect your PST settings and you should always be Authenticated. I hope this helps everyone.

Ryan Mogul (THANK YOU RYAN !!)

Now I have not try mms, Brandon has a fix for that, but I think there’s a new way that’s easier posted in Brandon thread. That will be next, for me to try.

When you open QPST, Click on ports and remove every port you see there. Nxt click add new port, you should see serial and usb/qc diag com ports. Click on the "usb/qc diag com port". If after clicking new port you don't see "serial com port" and "usb/qc diag com port", close the program, disconnect phone, reconnect and open device manager, click on ports(com & lpt), you should see htc diagnostic interface (and the COM port number here). If you don't see it, you shoud try reinstalling the diag drivers again. If you see it, open qpst and follow the instructions again.

    SMS error - code: 96, class: 3

Just some stuff i learned while doing this:
Your QPST has to be at least QPST 2.7 Build 323 to have hero support

Hey I'm getting this weird error when I try to send a SMS:

    "
    SMS error
    error code: 96
    error class: 3
    "

I have no clue what happened or what is going on? help?

I've got Data and talk working... and i called cricket and they had nothing to say about it - "it's your phone" so...

Did you flash talk and txt yourself? If you did, try changing the prl because sms should work with basic flash. Cricket Prls or google for more. ##775# and locate it on your sd card. There are really no special settings for sms that i'm aware of. Talk is to txt as mms is to wap. Since your talk is working, sms shouldn't be a problem.

    ...nothing... help?

I have called the *228 ... phone proceeds to restart ("automatically in 5 seconds")... nothing...
I have done this with the MoDaCo ROM, Fresh ROM, and a base Android 2.1.5 ROM... nothing...
I have Used QPST to load the PRL (both the 01039.prl, and the 38515.prl)... nothing...
I do have the $40 a month plan (which includes both so, i don't think that's the problem.

I can send Texts to my Gmail account no problem... but when I try to send it to the other 3 phones (in the house - 2 are with Verizon, 1 AT&T) nothing happens. The same cursed SMS error 96.

    Fixed... data doesn't Download... normal?

It turns out, the error had something to do with adding the 1 (international county code) This was fixed by: (on the home screen) Menu->Settings->Call->Automatic Prepend (off/unchecked)

Another problem(ish): I cannot download anything. It just sits in the notification bar rating its downloading... the app store works ( I can search it) but the same thing occurs. Is this normal?

I have a quick question. Why do Cricket users need to change the 000000 to 333333? I have rooted and flashed my Hero using 000000, and I have talk, text, web, & all apps are working, can also download from Market. Will it make a difference with anything if I change the 000000 to 333333?
    Thanks

Because 000000 and 333333 is what cricket uses in otap of your phone. it's only for *228 to assess your phone settings

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know that as of last week they now have a data plan for flashed phones at cricket. you have to go into the corporate store to do it, and it is $55 per month for unlimited everything. They did not charge an activation fee. I have had two CDMA Hero phones from Sprint on the PayGo Cricket accounts for a few months and all was working except data and GPS. I switched one over to the data plan on Wednesday and everything is working great, including GPS. I plan to switch the other one over next payday.
