the amount of data doesn't matter.

although the range of the price is .., 4410], the per packet cost is high anyway, so you will hit 4410yen fairly quickly.

This does not mean that your data is capped at 4410yen packets worth of data, but that the price is capped at 4410yen.

Plan on paying 4410yen for data a month.

    If only, if only.

So max they will charge for data is the 4410 yen a month? An unlimited plan is way way too much than I want to pay and i can not justify paying over 12300 yen a month.

The highest plan is the LL plan which is 7035 (half price with a 2 year contract) which has 800 minutes of talk time a month. There is NO unlimited plan.

I really hate talking on the phone and would use it to call work (I understand incoming calls are free) and that is about it. Even when I was residing in the States I rarely used a lot of minutes. Even back home in Canada the same.. Russia the same.... I doubt Japan will be any different. Especially since my friends are not confident in talking in English on the phone so they would rather text or email.

So my main purpose would be email and texting.

I am leaning towards the HD video phone. Have changed my mind 32 times back and forth on what phone is good for me.

Go with whatever the cute salesgirl recomends...
My first cell plan was with Cellular One (circa 10/94). It was $49.95/month for 100 LOCAL minutes, voicemail was $4.95/month extra, and it was an additional $.10 to per call to call a landline. No "nights"! - only weekends.
Now: Nation 850 (total of 4 lines): Unlimited M2M & N/W~$79.97/mo. No landline since 1/05!

    Right now I feel:

No the cute salesclerk spoke decent English and gave me her phone number before I left. I said "Ummm I don't have a phone yet remember" She giggled and said all the more reason to get a phone and winked at me.

Either she wants to make a sale or wants me.

But I get the data/packet info now. Much thanks. So expect to pay the max in the plan per month.

Was going to go with AU but my friend says she wants me to take over her existing contract from AU cause she really wants an i-phone and only Softbank is the only company that has it. So we are meeting for tea this week and I am going to look at her contract and she said she will throw in her 2 phones for free.

One doubles as an e-reader and the other is the infamous super kawaii phone which I assume I can trade in or sell to a used shop?

So going to see if I want to take over her contract first. If not then going back to the store (AU) with the cute sales clerk and getting a phone there.

    Beggers can't be choosers, though.

If he's having issues with how much money data is, and doesn't talk much, and only wants to email/text... then it makes the most sense.

I dunno, this is an odd thread with people going around in circles.

Circles huh?? Like the yamanote line. You can never get lost as it's a giant circle (^___^) (now that we're talking about japan).

Well I don't want a prepaid and the cost of AU is fine. If I wanted a prepaid I would go to Donki and get one there.

I am going with AU after hearing the info on here. It's not a money issue just don't feel the need to overpay for things like minutes that will never be used. Like I said if my friends plan is not good for me then I will go with the plan I originally mentioned.

Much thanks as I got most of the info I needed on here. (except what phone).
