In response to a rash of consumer outrage via Twitter at the thought that unlocking your cell phone may suddenly become illegal in Canada with the introduction of C-32 Clement updated by confirming that cell phone carriers will be required to unlock off contract phones:

I'm liking the wording: "allow" but not "enforce." O' Canada.
Would like to see if Bell/Rogers/Telus will unlock the iPhone if bought without a contract (maybe they'll just raise the price of no term phone to some absurd amount)
^ I thought most phone prices were already absurdly high?
amazing how these politicians change when faced with pressure.
keeps it up, and we can stop this nonsense!![]()

doesnt it say that we cant unlock the phones till the contract is over? nothing to say the carrier has to do it for us. just lets us do it after the contract instead of now.
