And they'll send them to Apple and they'll refurb and sell them. That's what the 10% restocking fee is for.

My statements and opinions do not reflect those of my employer, AT&T Mobility. This is disclosed per FTC regulation.
it's $35 restocking fee applies to all devices purchased at an AT&T-owned retail store, except where prohibited, not 10%
I'm not sure if Exchange will also be charge for $35, try Bestbuy, walmart then
$35, but 10% on Apple products.
Don't open the box lol.
Doesn't matter. If it leaves the store, it gets a restocking fee.
Wrong. All you have to tell Corp stores is not to open the box. Keep it in shrink wrap.
I purchased brand new bold 9700 at full price in December and told them not to touch the box.
I returned it after 2 weeks for full refined since it wasn't opened. I was debating getting the AT&T version of the bold 9700 since it was a special $350 full price no contract sale. But in the end went for the tmobile 9700 because if UMA.
But if they open the phone for u and u walk out, than they can hit you wwth the restocking fee.
You are right about the discretionary part. I guess it depends how well the store knows you. I purchased 8 cell phones from the same AT&T Corp store last year and 10 the year before. And I have exchange a few of them without any charges. Maybe because I have business and personal accounts with AT&T and they waive the restocking fee?
If you're a solid customer and are repeat business, they'll override it. It automatically posts and you need a manager code to remove it. If someone just walks in, buys or upgrades to a Blackberry 9700, brings it back a few days/weeks later wanting to return or exchange it, they're getting the $35 fee.
What about online purchases?
Purchased online and returned to a store? Or purchased online and returned through the mail?
Here is AT&T's Returns Policy...

The $35 restocking fee does not apply to online purchases. The 10% restocking fee applies to ALL iPhone purchases. If you purchase an iPhone directly through Apple, a 10% restocking fee applies for any unopened iPhone.
