How do unlocked HTC (desire specifically) work with Rogers? (monthly rate)

I want to buy an HTC desire unlocked, and heard u can get monthly rates with rogers, i am curious though, are there any restrictions in the form of punishment for not bending over to annual contracts? as in crappier and slower performance on the 3 g network or some luxuries being cut off of some sort? what are the rates usually for data plans?

Don't know about the rates but Rogers' network is 850/1900 for GSM and HSPA.

The European/Asian versions of this phone that are out are spedc'd as follows:
* HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
* GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

So you'll only get 2G service not 3G with this phone. Telus is supposed to get a North American version of this phone that will have HSPA 850/1900 in July or more likely August.

Telstra from Australia already has the Desire out, and it uses the 850 MHz network for 3g, i have one right now and it works perfectly find on Rogers
