I am having loads of problems with the Email + IM app that came with this phone, and would like to install an alternative.
Of course, the phone is completely locked up and I can't install any .jar files that aren't from Virgin's website.
Is there a way to bypass this yet?

I bought this phone yesterday, and I'm not too happy with the limited number of apps Virgin lets you download. The only way I'm keeping this if there's a way to bypass the Java lockdown. I tried using the site getjar.com, but as expected I get the "Access Denied" message when trying to download to my phone.
I hope someone knows a way to install jar files, because I really like the phone and $25/month unlimited data plan.
Not only are they limited, but they are sucky apps to begin with. :-\
I was successful in installing the non-Virgin version of Opra mini via their .jad file but have not had any luck with other applications I want. For some reason I can click to download but then get an "access denied" page.
To clarify I have the Rumor 2 not the Touch but assume these issues to be the same for both phones.
Then the question is how to install them once there downloaded. If you put the .jar file directly on the sd card from a pc it still wont let you install. The file says etc as file type if you click on the file it says unsapported file format.
I've seen people bypass this lockout on previous versions of this phone on Virgin, so it surely is possible. Maybe it is just a matter of time.
Im sure other people have noticed but just incase, when you try to download/install a jar file using opera it opens up the stock browser then says acces denied.I think if somehow you could just keep opera open it would possibaly work.
I was able to download and install the generic Opera browser and no longer have any of the VM stuff showing on Opera. But still get the access denied so I suspect it goes to the phone's programming when it comes to JAR and JAD files. I even downloaded the install files and put them on my web server with links I could click. While it did seem to download them it would not install...I just see a screen full of the java code.
I spoke to LG about using USB to install programs. Thing is VM has disabled the ability to turn on the USB function that is standard in the "uncrippled" version of this phone.
I dont think there is a way around this.So much for Virgin Mobile being Sprints prepaid DATA brand like they clame .Virgin Mobiles app and game section sucks so bad witch is somewhat a big deal to me. Hopefully the do something about this but i doubt it.
It is probably up to customers to complain a lot or move to another service. US Companies only understand profits. Customer Service no longer exists in the US.
I hear that i am verry unhappy with virgin mobile at the moment. I have had multipale problems with them so far wich of one is pretty concerning. I dont understand how people say sprints customer service is getting better while virgin mobiles while never good is getting worse and worse.
I think if we get in to debug menu (##DEBUG#) and get the service code we can enable USB mode and maybe get it through there...
IDK if ##DEBUG# works the touch though.
