    Iden VS CDMA speeds blackberry

    Hey Guys,

Im sure there is a post somewhere on here talking about this. But, I want to hear first hand.

Currently i am on the bb CDMA boost plan using the 8330. And the phone is like 5 years old and its SLOW as hell. and the memory is low. BUT, its on the CDMA / EVDO network.

Now, I see they have the 8350I which has more memory and a faster blackberry. I was wondering how the speed of SMS/MMS/WEB/Instant Messaging is? Compared to CDMA/EVDO.

    Thanks!

If you have no need for PTT and put speed of data above all, then stay with a non iDEN network.

    iDEN data max 19.2KBS
WiDEN data max 60KBS has been disabled for at least 2-3 years.

CDMA EVDO - 0 starts at 38.4KBS and tops out at ~ 2.5MBS
    CDMA EVDO - A tops out at ~ 3.1MBS

CDMA 0 is already 2x as fast at the slowest.

iDEN is NOT meant for web and high speed data... quick small packets of data is fine, like a short email (meaning a real email which is 100% text).

A 5MP photo will take over 1 HOUR to send to someone.

Wow. thanks for the info. So the new droid is useless and so is the 8350I. I guess i am stuck with the CDMA version with a crappy 8330.

Hmm, I just wish i could find a decent push email phone + all other crap without the need of BIS and windows mobile. ohwell

Well i have the tour and the 8350i. On boost the 8350i native browser is very slow. On Nextel its a lot faster because the data is compressed through the blackberry server. It usually takes the phone longer to load the data than to actually download it. Its really not that much slower than the tour . On extremly large sites yes but most no. No youtube unless on wifi. With opera mini 4 its at least twice as fast as the tours native browser. Pin messages are instant just like any other berry. I've had problems with mms twice in 18 months. It was a phone issue where I had to delete the mms service book while Nextel resent and refressed my account th two issues were weeks apart so for the most part I've had no problems.SMS is instant and can be received while in calls with the proper setting in the phone but because of the way sprint has elected to use sms on iden you cannot reply and sms has to be sent to a special email address not your phone number. The 8350i has a much more up to date operating system than the 8330 and there is supposed to be a update to 5.0 soon to include threaded messages. I have updated my tour to 5.0.One thing I don't like about 5.0 is the zoom on the gif viewer has changed . I prefer the 8350i over the tour all day long except for the camera. The reception on the tour is the worst I have had on sprint. I'm on my second one. The 8350i isn't great for iden either but it is usable compared to the tour. The 8350i and 680 are the only idens I have dropped more than 1 call in a day. My 580 dropped 2 calls in 1 year total. I don't think they will ever make a nextel that good again. The 8350i seems to constantly look for service though which is differant than the motos . With them if you take them out of coverage long enough you pretty much have to take them to full service for them to kick back in. I use bluetooth to compensate for the 8350i 's lack of signal which works great but I am in a very rural area where I probaly should even have Nextel or Sprint but Nextel is the s*#t

You can use a BB or Windows Mobile phone on Boost CDMA. If BB, download an email client that can POP or IMAP your email every 5-10 minutes. Or if Windows Mobile, just use the built in client (Outlook). Its not push, but I think it it would be fast enough.

I have my TP2 to pull my email every 5 minutes. Works great for me.
How is it that we give up houses, businesses and bank accounts when we want a divorce but can't part with a couple of hundred bucks to find cellphone bliss?

Nextel and Boost Mobile iDEN are the same, which is basically dial up data speeds. The 8350i is a decent phone which can be had for about $100 on Craigslist, I found my mint cond. one for $85 + a new in package SD card thrown in.

With the 8350i "general browsing" ie: email, google searches, etc. are fine via Opera Mini or Bolt Browser. I have Google Mobile installed on mine as well as Garmin GPS which are both free to obtain for this phone and perform excellent. However, downloading or sending big files is not really an option either is youtube. iDEN is as slow as it gets. It does have WiFi which is the only real answer for high speed data on this phone. I did read yesterday that Starbucks will begin offering free WiFi July 1st. I've had this 8350i since early January along with my 3G/4G MiFi until I decide to stay with the EVO or wait for the 2 pending Clear (contract free?) 3G/4G phones coming later this year. I've been with Boost Mobile for just over a year now and used not being under contract.

Data is compressed thru the blackberry server with bis/bes on Nextel. It is faster than on boost because of the compression. I is done the same way opera mini is done to increase speed just not as good. The email on Nextel is a million times better than trying to use shangmail and that other crap also. It can load multiple emails in seconds so it doesn't tie up the line and you dont miss calls either.

I have Google Mobile on my 8350i, thus all my emails are forwarded to my gmail account. This works very well and very fast for me.

Yeah, but it's not straight forward to get that set up.

^^ Really? If WM, then use the email client. If BB, then you can try:

    http://www.getjar.com/mobile/11608/m...-email-client/

I used it a long time ago on a Nokia 6256i, and it worked pretty well.
