Semi Nokia 5230 RM-593 Update: V20.8.7 for Cincinnati Bell Released! - Any Gutsy Ppl?

Upon the release of E73 by T-Mobile
    Me being bored...
I went on Navifirm hoping maybe there is a Wind E73 Firmware, sadly no...

But what I did find is the RM-593... Our AWS 5230 Variants has a V20 update!!!

For our advanced users, product code is 059C256.
Change on NSS and knock yourself out...

Anyone wanna try it out first?

059C256: 5230 RM-593 Cincinnati Bell Wireless (CBW) US White_ RED AWS_COLOR

Do you use Phoenix or NSU?

I don't flash, I usually just change the product code on NSS (Sometimes Phoenix)... then run NSU

It's safer to do it with Phoenix than NSU, because it's offline. If NSU fails (online) you can brick the phone easily.

I just did the upgrade and let me tell you: WOW!! It feels way faster than before!! I made a backup before doing it but didn't needed it, it kept all my settings/contacts/messages as if nothing happened. I had the maps app v3.04 already installed so I'm not sure if it comes with the update. It also installed Shazam and Ovi sync. At power on/of you'll see a Cincinnati Bell logo instead of Wind's.

I read at other forum that firmware v20 also has the GPS code improved for faster lock but I can't try right now at home. We'll see tomorrow how it works...

OOoohhhh~ so it's pretty much like debranded firmware?
So you can pick GSM only or UMTS only, mp3 ringtones... etc D:

Did the wind APN program automatically? Or you don't use data services?

Does it keep the SIM Toolkit? Faster GPS lock is worth the upgrade for me.
Please don't PM me asking questions that could very easily be asked publicly.

Band I/1 = IMT, 2100 (rarely wrongly referred to as 1900/2100)
Band II/2 = PCS, 1900 (never wrongly referred to as 1800/1900)
Band III/3 = DCS, 1800 (never wrongly referred to as 1700/1800)
Band IV/4 = AWS, 1700 (often wrongly referred to as 1700/2100)
    Band V/5 = CLR, 850
    Band VIII/8 = GSM, 900

    The Rogers Lumia 710 only has 1, 2, 4, 5

@erichau: Yes, I can still pick GSM only or UMTS only or both. It allows mp3 ringtones too. As I told you, looks like it just updated the firmware but didn't changed my configuration, so the data settings for internet and mms remainded untouched.

@migo: It kept the SIM toolkit too. About the GPS, I haven't tried it yet...

I just installed the update on my girlfriends phone and it seems pretty much the same. Before, the GPS before took about 10 minutes to lock on once, and every other time it has never been able to get a signal. She doesnt have a data plan though so this is strictly with gps and no a-gps.

So far im testing the gps and it is still not getting a signal (been going almost 5 minutes now) so maybe no change unless you have a data plan.

20 minutes now and no gps, so i can so officially that this update does not help gps lock speed when you have NO data.

If you are using a-gps with a data plan it may be different.

It also depends on your location
I know in my neighborhood i can never get signal on regular GPS, too much trees :/
When I'm at my friend's place at Leslie and 16th ave (no trees) my gps locked under 5mins

I was doing this by a window on the 11th floor and an apartment building in the west end of vancouver, so we aren't really obstructed.

It is a concrete building, however I was right by the windows. My girlfriend has tried it before outside and never gotten a lock, the only time we ever got a lock was after 10-15 minutes in our apartment.

Once she uses it for a couple of days i'll see if she finds it any snappier.
