The only time I use iDen is on weekends when I use the $1/day plan. The problem is that I have to change the plan early on Saturday and remember to switch it back to paygo on Sunday or I'll get charged $1 every day.
H2O Wireless now has a similar plan. $1 nights and weekends plan charged only on days you use the phone. Their per-minute rate is higher on peak hours, but if I only use it on weekends, it's the same as boost iden. And I don't have to switch plans every weekend. Just turn off the phone until I need it.
So now I will be using
- H2O on weekends for unlimited call/texting
- T-mobile on those evenings I need to make a lot of calls - $1 free 7PM-7AM
- Net10 for cheap per-minute rate with their free phone offers ($20 for 500 minutes)
- Boost CDMA for low-cost data
Where did you read the $1 daily plan is going way for iDEN? I can still change to it on my account.. and like you I have an iDEN phone just for that reason.
Ah, ok. The H2O plan has been around for a while now too. The Boost plan offers unlimited text and free mobile to mobile (all the time) to Sprint all the time. H2O offers no M2M and no free text during the weekdays.
I didn't say Boost's plan was going away. Just that it's more convenient with H2O, not having to turn the plan on and off on weekends. I give out my MagicJack number and have that forward to whatever phone I'm using. What's confusing to callers is what number they get on their caller ID when I call them.

$20 for 500 minutes with net10??? where do u get that many min for a low price?...for $20 u get 200 (10 cents a min)
They always have the $20 for a phone and a 200 minute card. The phone comes with 300 minutes and the card makes it 500. With promo codes, you can reduce the price and get free shipping. See their forum.

Or if you can find a decent deal with PlatinumTel for a phone, their PayGo is pretty cheap: http://www.platinumtel.com/plans/realpaygo
5 cent talk, 2 cent SMS
Net10 is a bit cheaper but phone churning required.
If I keep Boost on the $1 a day plan and turn off the phone on week day, would that avoid the $1 charge? What happen if people text me? Would I get charge then?
What kind of phone H2O use? GSM? Unlocked Tmobile phone?
