can i get a woot woot.....!!! Sweet!!! Although I won't be getting my iPhone on June 24...it'll definately be worth the wait till July to get my factory unlocked iPhone 4!!!
This is awesome. I just preordered from BestBuy, but even with the full price it's still a locked phone. If there's a release date, and an official price, I might just cancel my preorder and go for a factory unlocked phone (I study in the US, but home is in Canada).
However, seeing that the 8gb 3GS is $549(!!!!), I wonder how they're going to price an unlocked iphone4. To put it in perspective, the 8gb 3GS with a 2yr contract is $99 in the US.
Makes sense now why they put Canada on the second tier launch. The tables have turned; Americans will surely now be coming to Canada to get their iPhones.

This is the main reason why unlocked, unsubsidized, contract-free phones will still never be embraced by the majority of consumers though. The value of electronics has been clouded by subsidized deals.
To buy a factory unlocked iPhone elsewhere in the world, through legitimate channels, it has cost around $1000.
Oh my, my... sounds like AT&T's gonna have a lot of cross boarder competition. I like the option to go and grab a iPhone 4 16GB for under $700 bucks unlocked... *drool*

I think this is a very smart move for Apple. So many times I have been in the apple store and customers fighting with G-Bar to have their iphones fixed but since they were jailbroken Apple wont touch them… This is going to fix a lot of problems. Does anyone know if there going to be unlocked if their on contract?
Can you not just order them online from apple's canadian website? You cant just walk in to the store i thought. So no yanks just driving up and going to the store...gotta buy online, ship to canadian address then pick it up from there.
I will offer my house as a shipping address for a $100 fee...
GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G(S) with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service then you should only update your device with an .ipsw that is made with the new PwnageTool. There are no second chances with this. You need to remember that PwnageTool will provide an upgrade path to newer versions of the iPhone software in the future.

Indeed. I'm Canadian but have been living the U.S. for some time now. If these are sold in the stores, I would definitely make a trip back to pick one up.

It's suspected to be $649/749 in Canada.
I will take $749 for an unlocked 32GB iPhone 4 over $1,000 any day.

I might just take you up on that if they can't be purchased in stores physically.
I can only hope it'd be $649/749. I believe I saw on Telus's (or maybe it was Rogers) website a couple of weeks ago that the no commitment price for the 3GS was $700/$800.
Seeing as the UK is getting unlocked phones for 599pounds ($750+ CAD), I'm gonna venture that the Canadian prices for an unlocked iPhone4 will be at least $800.
