Iphone: Do you think front facing camera will work with Skype video calling on it?
I know this may be speculation but this may be the deal breaker for me to get the next phone.
I have a child off to college pretty soon who uses skype video regularly with her friends and I will assume with me also. I have actually gotten the skype video to work on my little Nokia N79 fairly well and would like my next phone to also have this capability so I can talk with her when she's away but I am not near my computer.
Anyone care to hazard a guess as to whether this will work? If you think of another phone besides the Nokias I would be open to suggestions there too.
The front-facing camera is accessible to third-party developers via iOS 4 APIs, so there's no reason Skype couldn't integrate it into their app. Whether they will actually do it is anybody's guess.
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

That's true but now that I think about it, if they are going to charge for their own video calls on that face thingy with other iphone owners, why would they let skype put an app in that gives it to you for free on any skype-capable phone? Hmmmmmmmmmm.....
I am going to watch this carefully before I get this phone, particularly since I am buying it outright without a contract.
Because one is iphone to iphone calling and another is an internet app to app. But as said I really would like to see someone like skype use the front camera for free 3G calling.

Where did you get that Apple is going to charge extra for FaceTime?
LOL. I just assumed since AT&T was going to charge for facetime. My mistake and good for those who will use it.
However, my dd is not getting an iphone at college, mainly because she is on Verizon and even if she does switch to AT&T, she is certainly is not getting the latest model on my dime so facetime is out for us. I need a phone that will let me use skype on my phone. Like I said, since I buy my phones outright, I am going to hold back for a while and see what developes.
