I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

Iam from India and i've won a bid in ebay for iphone4 which was used in Japan SoftBank carrier with firmware 4.3.3. I beleived it would work in India if i can unlock it. Could any one of you help me understand will i be able to unlock the iphone 4 in India and start using with any gsm carrier.

I have also a iPhone used in Japan SoftBank with firmware 4.3.3. For enable it for all carriers you need use Gevey. Hey, don't you have the Softbank SIM Card? I couldn't activate FaceTime and the only try that miss is activate my iphone by iTunes using the original carrier sim card.
I believe that your iPhone 4 should work with the gevey sim card if you don't upgrade to firmware 04.11.08 which is IOS 5. I have both an Inphone 4 4.3.5 in japan now i'm in paris it was working until i mad that mistake to upgrade.

I live in Pakistan and I bought an iphone here. it was working on gevey sim .by mistake i upgraded it to IOS 5 now its reset and needs to be activated. i sent a few mails and found that its original sim was of SOFTbank network and also its locked on it. how can i unlock my phone. will softbank provide me with an unlocking code. can u help and guide me through this. iam not very technical but all i want is my phone working again. thanks. waiting for your reply
I live in Japan and have an iphone 4 purchased from softbank. I am currently in the state visiting. I've tried with a friend's att sim and it is locked. It says sim invalid. The answer is that is is locked to softbank only whether you are in japan or out of the country.
I noticed that my softbank does work here in the states. I did not sign up for international plan either. The carrier that shows up on my phone is ATT.

It doesn't hurt to ask if they can unlock it for you, but I seriously doubt they will provide you the unlocking code.

You can still use your iphone if you reinstall IOS 5 using jailbreak for hacktivate it. You can use sn0wbreak 2.9 that is the newest version and is IOS 5.0.1 compatible. Check your baseband. Gevey will work only with baseband 04.10.01
