Looks like it's hit or miss as to whether you'll get one early or not. From those posts, no one in the PA burbs is getting one yet, so I'll have to wait till Sunday, and hope they still have them in stock by the time I get off work.

It would really help me if someone could please answer this general android question. Like in S60, can all 3g/carrier data be disabled so that apps can access data only through wifi when its available?

I've only read one or two reviews that held the Captivate in a higher light than the other Galaxy S phones. Plastic or not the Vibrant is solid. A metal battery cover won't make the phone creak less.. lip stick on a pig. Not saying that it's either but that the battery cover is merely for dress up. It still looks like the same exact phone with it off.

I can edit the APN fields on my Telus Hero. If one can do that on the ATT branded Android, then one could just leave those fields blank thus disable the cellular data.

It seemed to me that many of the hardware reviews I've watched have praised the build quality of the Captivate. I have not watched as many reviews (nor do I think as many are out there) for the Vibrant, but I don't recall them remarking on the build quality.

I was never a fan of the rubbery-plasticy back of the Galaxy S, which the Vibrant shares, but the material doesn't mean that it's poorly constructed. I'd say in terms of construction or build quality they're even, but in terms of materials I'd give the edge to the Captivate. I do like the way the Captivate looks compared to the stock Galaxy S form factor. I prefer square corners to round, I guess.

In reference to the signal strength issue, let's not forget that the problem with the iPhone 4 is that the antenna is actually exposed. This makes it possible for skin or any other conductive material to contact the antenna, either directly affecting the resonance, or bridging it with the wifi antenna. I don't think anyone is disputing that you can negatively impact the reception of almost any phone (or any antenna, for that matter) by obstructing it with your flesh, but there is no way to directly contact the antenna on the Galaxy S phones.

That said, I'm hard pressed to drop the bars on my Nokia, even with two hands around the antenna portion of the phone...

Hey! There is nothing wrong with Dell. I've had three Dell computers so far, and I haven't had a problem with any of them.

North Austin had them in stock at the ATT store. They had a store demo that they let me play with.

I use to be a big fan of dell PC's back in the day, in fact i still own one that about 4 years old.. But go to Best buy or any computer repair center and ask what's the number 1 computer brand they have problems with. And I know just about all CS has been outsourced over seas, but calling Dell makes me really want to shoot myself in the face..

But nevermind all that, the number one reason not to get this phone, is because this is one of Dell's first phones to make. It's never a good idea to (most of the time) to get someone's first batch of electronics. Not when you have companies that have been making mobile devices for 10+ years.

I mean there's a chance that Dell's phones may ROCK, but there's also the chance that they'll have bug issues even hardware issues.

And spec wise the Galaxy S is on TOP of anything that's out. I really believe you will be satisfied with the Galaxy S. It's the only phone that will have the Super AMOLED screen for the next 18 months. And it has the fastest GPU on the market. But that's just My opinion.

Hopefully whatever you decide you'll enjoy it..

Went to another AT&T store today. This time, the rep wasn't sure when they'd get the phone ("sometime next week") and wasn't sure of the price ("we haven't gotten prices yet"). I'd like to know if the price has really been changed or corrected to $500+.
