So I have a Rogers SE C905a and I want to turn off 3G cause it really is sucking out alot of battery. I know that I can debrand it but aside from the option to turning off 3G theres really no good in debranding. So im wondering if it is possible to turn off 3G without debranding? If not, what other good might debranding my phone bring? I mean, I already have Wi-Fi, GPS and all that stuff.
Also, does the GPS function without internet? Cause the only time I can get GPS to work is when im connected throught Wi-Fi (I have no data) but that is within 800m on Google Maps... When I try GPS without Wi-Fi it just takes forever (forever as in it doesnt connect...) to connect to the satellites.
Lastly, I noticed that youtube doesn't work anymore. After it says "Connected to media server" it just never buffers. I recall reading somewhere that it is because youtube changed something on their server or something so that only users with data can watch youtube on their phone. Is there anyway I can fix that?
THANKS!
There might be a way to force 2G without debranding. I haven't tried it myself, but you can give it a try and see if it works.
Open a text editor, and create a file called "default_upgrade.xml"
Paste the following contents into it and upload using A2Uploader into TPA \ PRESET \ DEFAULT
As for GPS, it will function without internet (i.e you SHOULD be able to receive latitude / longitude coordinates), but you won't be able to load maps. The exception to this is if you manage to somehow load maps into your phone's memory before you use your GPS.<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

I think when you're using WiFi and getting a range within 800m, you're only getting the cell tower's ID broadcast to your phone... that's why the accuracy is poor. To use GPS effectively, you need to be outdoors, with a clear view of the open sky (GPS satellites can't transmit effectively through walls).
Not sure about YouTube, works fine on my W705a.
