So does the problem still exist where people have to change settings in some cities to get the phone to connect to Wind Home signal? Some have reported that doing a factory reset after unlocking fixes this issue though I am sure I read in this thread that someone else tried that and it didn't work for them. I'm considering getting the phone but don't want to have to disable Wind Away to use it.

UPDATE: I'm one of the people who said a factory reset after unlocking would work. It did... for awhile. The problem is back again today.

darn, that sucks. It seems like this only occurs in certain cities such as vancouver and calgary though.. People in toronto say it works fine. Hopefully ottawa's fine as well..

BTW does anyone know if the DIY unlock is easy to do for a noob? i'm an android noob..

Even though it may only be an issue in Vancourver in Calgary, living in Edmonton with family on my wife's side in Calgary it still needs to work in all their cities as I don't want to have to mess with the phone settings when I go down to Calgary. It just needs to work. If it did, I'd probably already have bought the phone and be a Wind customer right now.

But it's not Wind's phone. So you can't really expect Wind's techies to get it up and working for you, because they're not trained to troubleshoot a vibrant. i'm sure they'll help (in fact someone posted that a tech guy took him through some troubleshooting), but whether or not it will work is another story.

Try that with Robbers, speaking from experience, they won't even bother helping. they'll just tell you they're not familiar with the phone model and to buy one of their phones..

Anyways, for those in Ottawa that are interested in the vibrant, i can confirm that I've been on Wind Home since unlocking it late last night. you don't need to enter the codes that people were talking about earlier in this thread.

thanks for confirming that about Ottawa, looking at switching to Wind when I get back to my new place.

Any issues with coverage that you've noticed?

no problem dude.. in terms of coverage, i work in gatineau just past the war museum, and reception in my office (6th floor) is great. i get full bars even when i'm in the elevators.. I used to never get any reception while in the elevators when i was with Robbers..

I was at my gf's place yesterday, which is right by St. Laurent, but didn't get any reception.. She said occasionally she doesn't get good reception at home and it was the first time that it's happened to me while at her place, so st. laurent's coverage might be spotty..

Sounds like its not terrible at all. By chance any comments on the area right around the Parkdale Market or on the Carleton campus?

Wind Away Problem with Samsung Galaxy S

If anyone had this problem but some how fixed it (as in their phone was stuck in Wind Away now after tweaking it works in BOTH Wind Home AND Wind Away), I would be grateful if you could please let us know at this thread.

For me, when I unlocked my phone, I was in Orleans, which is a wind away zone, and it showed wind away on my phone.. but the next morning I went to work, received wind home, and set wind home as the default network, and have only been receiving wind home since. But whenever I'm in an area not covered by wind home a pop up box will ask me to select another carrier, to which i say no.

so, maybe all you need is a factory reset, since I was able to get wind away on the default settings..

Wth... today I turned on my unlocked phone and it asked me for the network unlock code again. It was as if the phone was now locked. (I have had it unlocked for over a month.)

I tried restarting again but it still asked me so I dug up the old unlock code that I got from ebay and it worked.

edit: Maybe it's because I was messing with the servicemode settings a couple of days ago.

I've been dancing back and forth about picking one of these up for a couple weeks. Seeing a lot of people grabbing the phone off eBay in here. Any other suggestions? I'm in Calgary, if that's at all relevant.

And anything I need to know about besides manually setting the network/apn (or reset)?

I'm in Calgary and love the phone (and service). Having said that I do live outside the city and commute in every day (so I have to manually set the network going in and out of the city - I wish I didn't have to do that, but it's relatively painless). While I've only been with WIND a few weeks, I've yet to drop a call and have only found one place I couldn't use the phone (Tuscany).
