Yes OS matters for the manner in entering in a SIM unlock code. For example, in S60 on the E71 if you enter a SIM unlock too many times you can no longer enter it in. This is not the case for Android.
Remember the Galaxy S has been out in Europe for a bit. Meaning the SIM lock algorithm is already in use there. Bell isn't going to create some new algorithm for the phone (e.g. see the X10 vs X10a example).
Finally, flashing a custom rom is for rooting a phone-not sim unlocking it.

so the European Galaxy S has been unlocked. or are the pros still trying to figure it out.
because that is what it comes down to is it not.
Wave just got unlocked pretty quick. Here is hoping the Vibrant is the same.
Hmm...I like the look of the AT&T Captivate better than the picture Bell has on the website (it has the right bands too does it not). The Captivate looks much less like a big old iPhone. Even the T-Mobile Vibrant looks better without the big button thing in the middle.

What's the difference between the 4 buttons and the 3 with the big one in the middle anyways? I see the menu and back buttons are common, and I got the impression the middle is just a big home button?
I was wondering the same thing and I tried a couple of search from a authorized corporate reseller of Bell (Kitcom) and found a page for the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. The page is not fully documented and could just be a placeholder but it says $99.95 for 3 years activation and $599.95 for 30 days.
$599.99 with 30 days? At that price it will be cheaper to buy a compatible U.S. version and unlock itThe page is not fully documented and could just be a placeholder but it says $99.95 for 3 years activation and $599.95 for 30 days.![]()
but the Captivate doesn't have a front facing camera, and it has some weird fake carbon fiber pattern on the back
& i still don't believe theres an unlock for the Captivate yet. and don't see why there should, since AT&T is really the only one down there as the big -time carriers that use 850MHz- HSPA. the Bell version will probably get unlocked faster than the Captivate considering the other 850MHz carriers in Canada
did the Vibrant even get a launch party from Bell
if its a Galaxy S, eg. Galaxy S Pro (Sprint Epic). some of you might have some more waiting to do
The metal back also serves as an antenna to some secondary radios, and thus can give you some touchiness with their signals, besides being really hideous
LTE has arrived. The third carrier in Las Vegas with 10x10 LTE coverage
Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.
T-Mobile USA. “This year, we’re stepping on the gas again. We are making continued coverage improvements and launching an advanced LTE network
Again, that comes down to personal choice. Actually having one here and holding it in my hand it's actually a lot better looking than the old design of the Vibrant's backside. It gives it a Premium feel that the others are just lacking. But that has nothing to do with anything really.

my apologies, you are correct
it is a better rear piece. from previous photos i've gathered, and things i've read told me differently. but now i can see
im thinking of jumping ship to the Captivate and roll without the front facing camera. if Bell comes out with some ridiculous no-term pricing. and double lock it like Area 51
please keep HoFo up to date with your new toy.![]()
Samsung Vibrant or Google Nexus 1?
