I am a long-time T-Mobile customer whose contract has expired. I'm thinking of getting an HD2 with contract renewal.
If I look at My T-Mobile online, it says I can get it with 2 year contract for $199. (Of course, what is really meant is they will sell it for $249, and one would be eligible for a $50 mail-in rebate, which may or may not ever come. (I hate advertising "äfter-rebate" pricing. Not an honest way to list prices, in my book.)
Today at Staples, I see that they have it for $119, and that is not only for new customers, but also for out of contract upgraders, like myself. Saving of $80 over buying from T-Mo.
Are there any other dealers selling it for still less, with the deal available not only for new customers, but also for upgraders?
What if I call T-Mo customer service, say "cancel" at the prompt, and when a person comes on the line, tell them I want to cancel, to switch to ATT to get the new Iphone? I assume in that case, wanting to keep me (retention dept.), they will offer their Iphone alternative, the HD2, at a lower price. How low? Has anyone here tried that? How much did you pay for the HD2 through retentions?

I would look closely at the terms of those offers from Staples. Even though they include upgrades, many times the deal is you have to switch to one of the current Even More plans and get the $30 per month data plan.
T-Mobile pays the resellers big commission for getting existing customers to switch to the costly Even More plans and Staples is refunding some of that commission back to the customer.
If you find out that Staples will leave your grandfathered voice plan and your Total Internet plan alone and still give you the phone for $119, please let us know.
I see that wirefly.com now has option to keep existing plan. (They used to require upgrade to Even More). Here's what their terms say:
[I]If you’d like to continue with your existing T-Mobile service plan, select this option. As long as your selected device and current rate plan are eligible to be upgraded, we’ll provision it the same as it is today. If any modifications are necessary, we’ll contact you before we make any changes.

I had read that thread before, but did not see any specific mention of the HD2 there. Today I asked about it there, and will check and see if there is a reply.
Anyhow, this thread is specifically about the HD2, about any kind of price deals (for upgraders) that people have found.
I called a Walmart today, and they do sell it for $48 something. They were all out now. It wasn't clear to me, from talking to the rep, if I could get the same deal as an OOC upgrader.
Anyone here actually done that?
What about retentions? Anyone here got an HD2 upgrade through retention?
Of course, I did upgrade two times in WalMart.
Upgrade means extend your contract, they may want to sell you some options, insurance etc.; just simple reject it.
If they ask you for data plan, you can choose unlimited SMS instead (you can cancel any time later)
