How is T-Mobile's native GSM coverage expanding?

So with all this talk about 3G and HSPA+, it seems that normal GSM coverage has been put on the back-burner.

I was wondering how T-Mobile's native coverage is expanding nationwide. The rural Illinois coverage isn't all that amazing outside the highways; no roaming on AT&T

T-Mobile just inked a deal for roaming in the gulf of Mexico. I have a 3G map screenshot that I took back in Jan. and coverage has grown since then for 3G and GSM. T-Mobile has good rural here in Nevada. Better than Sprint and AT&T in some places (the same can be said for AT&T). Verizon is probably the best national carrier of course.

I saw the gulf coast roaming!

I thought that was really cool, even though ill probably never venture that far into the Gulf, it must be nice having the roaming!

When you compare the screenshots, where has the coverage increased? lol

Right off the bat coverage in MN grew considerably, 3G and 2G. More 3G spots in TX/AL/GA

Well here is the cap itself. I don't know how to get a more zoomed in nationwide scale version, to see the smaller improvements.

Thanks! That's pretty neat to look at. MN's obviously got some huge improvements, but it looks like they're pushing into ND and SD, too? Wisconsin seems to be slowly expanding north too! looks great!

I've seen their GSM network expanding in Eastern Missouri, Western Alabama, and Colorado a bit.

Colorado needs the expansion pretty badly. I went to Aspen and Snowmass Village and there was no coverage whatsoever.

That's interesting because at the least, Snowmass shows 3G (I checked a while back, it was added in late '09)

EDIT: 3G was added in the Aspen area too, this year it looks like.

Youre right! Hmm...maybe it had to do with the fact that we werent staying in the actually village, but in some townhouses nearby. but thats cool that the village does!

I wish AT&T would allow T-Mobile to roam here in West/Central Illinois.

There has been some GSM\GPRS expansion in C and SE KS as of the last year or so. Nothing new in Wichita specifically which sucks but... At least they are doing something i guess...

T-Mobile has been expanding their network in VT, Adirondacks Region of NY, and Northern NH in the last year or so. I don't think T-Mobile will be expanding into NEK region of VT or not anytime soon.

The biggest hold up for T-Mobile in VT is that they're applying for permits to construct towers, otherwise they have been co-locating when possible or using a another suitable site. My guess it that they don't want to half azz it like Sprint does.

To my knowledge, AT&T roaming is still allowed inside the covered areas.
Coverage is a little bit shaky at times because it switches between EDGE and GPRS.

I think the MN/ND/SD coverage growth is the rolling into T-Mobile of the former JV with Unicel.

In other words, not new coverage but conversion from preferred roaming to native.

Sounds good to me! T-Mobile only allows in-market roaming in certain markets right? I'm not able to roam in Chicago on AT&T
