They stopped carring the LG620G??? It`s only been available for something like two weeks. They sure do make quick decisions at your WalMart.
Your 620G should be running on AT&T since it`s GSM. The 290C runs on Verizon since it`s CDMA. Does AT&T or Verizon have better coverage in your area?
Yes, the lady that helped me in the Connections Center at the local Wal-Mart said they sent the phones back to their warehouse because it was a GSM phone.
I am not sure which service has the better coverage, I would guess it would be Verizon though. I had AT&T years ago, and the coverage was not that great here. Again, that was years ago though and since then I have always had US Cellular (for the last 6 years +).
So the difference basically boils down to GSM = AT&T network. CDMA = Verizon.

GMS could also be with T-Mobile. But there has yet to be a confirmed report of any new ST GMS phone having a T-Mobile SIM card, only AT&T SIM cards so far.
Actually, the local WalMart should know from experience (people returning phones) if a GSM phone will not work well in your area. You can click on this ST link and enter your zip code and see which phones are offered to you by ST: http://www.straighttalk.com/ShopPhon...6B881C2BBF522D
Also try Walmart online with your zip to see if they say the 620 will work in your area (they require you to check every model individually). WalMart is knows for shipping all GSM phones with AT&T SIM`s: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-T...Phone/14698984
If a phone doesn`t work, it will be MUCH less hastle returning it to WALMART. Remember that before placing an order with ST themselves.
I saw that the 620 has gprs data. That would be painful if you were not a patient person. Even the 420 has edge. What a bummer
This is what flrjr42501 (the first person to buy and report about the ST 620) had to say about it:
No this phone isnt 3g, but it is edge, so the browsing isnt bad. I have bolt browser and opera mini on this and they both whip right along. This phone is no more restricted than a comparable at&t phone. You can download ringtones, videos off of vuclip, bluetooth file transfers work. You can get java apps and games. I even have google maps on this phone. It has an mp3 player, 1.3 megapixel camera, video recorder and player, and its only 69.99 at walmart.
Just letting everyone know that I have the t401G and yes you can download java including bolt and other apps that use the internet but you can't use them....at least not on this phone. They install great but when you open them to run em then you always get a message that the you need to start your internet for it to work. Straight Talk has something disabled so you can't use the internet for anything but the factory browser. I have no idea how the other guy did it...unless its different on the other gsm phone. I know it has something to do with the network settings but there is no way to change the settings on the phone. If anyone does figure it out let me know. :~)
now the real question is what data modes are supported on the AT&T network with these prepaid SIMs? If i buy an N900 for example, am I going to get 3G since it's available in my area? Or is it just like getting a gophone?
