Once the Android phone comes, they will have phones that cost more than $200, phones that are in the $100-$200 range and phones that are under $100. That would give them phones in each price range for each type of customer.

Update: I defer to vmobi's wisdom. unlike some of the secret sources mentioned in this thread, I put credence into what vmobi says.
Why? Because they just lowered the prices recently....

    LOL @ the last part.

From what I can tell, VM has a habit of bringing on the cheapest phones of a certain class.
Until a phone like that exists for 4G service, I can't imagine sprint would do that.

I think they need to make sure that they aren't competing with themselves, and to make sure that everyone who wants the "latest and greatest" is paying for more for it on their sprint side.

    Just my 2 cents.

Even though the prices were recently lowered you think they may get lowered yet again?

Nothing concrete yet, maybe Hesse will provide info regarding that here....

I am still blown away by the fact the Intercept is suppose to be $229. The Intercept is a way better phone spec wise than the BB yet the BB costs so much. Infact I have noticed most RIM devices cost alot.

    Why is this?

That's the way they used to do things. There's a new reality in American Wireless telecom services. Sprint is pulling all the stops and going full speed ahead with their Prepaid Services. While Sprint may continue to introduce new devices to postpaid subscribers they are no longer depriving prepaid subscribers of those devices and services.

The reason I say this is because. How long has 4G actually been out now? For about a year? In my opinion i don't see VM releasing a 4G device till they become reasonably cheap and 4G, HSPA, LTE etc become more common.

When are they going to start?
Every single phone available at Virgin Mobile is on the low end of it's class. (including the new intersect)
This may Exclude the blackberry. I haven't done much research into where the curve stands.

Maybe it has something to do with why PCs are less expensive than Apple computers. How many cell phone manufacturers are competing against each other building RIM phones?

It's not just with Android phones. Feature phones that have better specs than a BB will always cost less for the phone itself and monthly.

That's too bad. Even if there isn't 4G coverage yet, it would be nice to have a phone that is compatible with it for if it even expands to the area.

Wasn't that the point I made in my post?
