Well, even if Att is the exclusive for now, it isn't that farfetched for Tmobile to get involved too as they have Net10 Unlimited under their belt.
My big question still hasn't been answered so I might have to do it myself. It is a known fact that ST cdma Verizon based phones can be and have been successfully activated on other Verizon mvnos (notably Page Plus). Can the Att based Gsm ST version have other Att mvno sims work on their phones, can ST gsm sims work in unlocked/Att based gsm phones and can ST gsm phones be unlocked for use with any gsm sim.
That, to me, are the big questions. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to know that answer in a factual and conclusive manner.
Should I wait to start ST Service, since may use ATT instead of VW network?
Hello,
I have been using Cricket service in my area, which has worked well, but when I travel out of the major metropolitan area into the country, it roams, which is expensive, so I was thinking of switching to either ST or Page Plus Cellular. I wanted to switch to ST knowing that it uses the VW network. 1) From reading this forum it appears ST now may use the ATT network, is this true? 1a) If this does happen do you think ST will still support use of VW network or no?
2) Should I wait a few weeks to see how things develop as far as whether or not ST will continue to use VW network or switch to ATT?
My biggest concern is I do not want to go out and spend money on a current CDMA, VW - ST phone and then find out that it will no longer work b/c ST will now use ATT and not VW, then I would not be able to get my money back.
If current ST customers are grandfathered into the new plans and if they do not need to get new phones, then how would the current CDMA phones work on the AT&T GSM network? Their current phones are not GSM and CDMA are they? It would seem that all current CDMA phone customers would have to buy the new GSM phones.

I selected ST because it seemed like the biggest/least risky Verizon Wireless network MVNO-- the VZW network being the best in most parts of the country by most knowledgeable evaluators.
If ST switches to another carrier, I'm porting-out my number and will be gone when my 30 day plan expires next after they do...
I doubt seriously that they have any plans to drop the CDMA service. They are just adding the GSM to expand their reach to areas not served by the Verizon Prepaid network that they use. The coverage map on the website used to have some very big holes in certain areas that have now been filled in. That has to be due to the addition of the GSM service/phones.
you are right sfot. i e-mailed ST last week about this and they said they have agreements with VZW,ATT and T-Mobile. they are not dropping VZW, just adding more choices. wish i saved their response but anyone can e-mail them. the address is on their website , under "contact us" i think. they respond within a day or two.
Does anyone know who the GSM phones roam on?
Do they roam on VZW? We get really bad AT&T service at the house. Mediocre VZW service.
Wife is on ST, I am on VZW for now, but was thinking about Virgin because of their better phones.
If GSM roams on VZW, that might make that worth it.
Announcement today might make it worth it too...hopefully!

No ST phone is capable of working both on CDMA (Verizon) and GSM (AT&T) - so no roaming between the two.
If you order a ST CDMA phone it will be on Verizon and will not roam on another CDMA provider.
The few ST GMS phones purchased have AT&T SIM cards. It is un-determined as yet if they roam or if there will be phones with T-Mobile SIM cards. It is just too soon to be certain of many things.
According to the newest ST Terms and Conditions the GSM phones do in fact, Roam.

Service on the CDMA Network. If your Straight Talk service is on the CDMA network, your Straight Talk phone will not roam when you are outside of the Straight Talk CDMA network coverage area.

I finally am seeing the 620g phone for sale at my local WalMart - about 8 miles away (Niles, MI 49120). Previously only the "c" (for CDMA) phones.
Funny thing is, I've input the zip code for this store's location on the TracFone/Net10 sites, and it comes up as a GSM5AT market, yet the Trac & Net10 phones on the rack there are CDMA. AT&T and Verizon have about equal coverage in this area (a lot of small towns with rural areas in-between); T-Mobile isn't bad, and it even roams on Centennial, now part of AT&T. But VZW does much better in the areas you'd consider wild & wooley. That may be the rationale with the TF/Net10 retail rack phones here: higher percentage of satisfied customers.
Trac/Net10 CDMA offerings/bundles have always been inferior (or cost more) than the GSM offerings. Apparently Trac receives a higher usage cost with their CDMA contracts and thus push the GSM offerings. Maybe WalMart cares more about offering the better coverage and resulting customer satisfaction.
This thread is making me pull my hair out! Over 160 posts and nobody's even bothered to pop the SIM out and try it in an AT&T 3G smartphone (iPhone, Aria, Captivate, Pre Plus, Nexus One, etc)?

HaHa. I have been hoping to see a post from someone who's tried that too.
Surely one of you with the new phones has access to another GSM phone to try this with.
