Could be that ST is trying to be the unlimited version of Net10 and Tracfone, use a combo of cdma and gsm to cover the whole country. Makes no sense to me with no roaming allowed probably anyway. I GREATLY RESPECT the Sweeper's opinion and viewpoints but frankly don't think Net10 Unlimited is history for the simple reason that Target needs them as a weapon to fight Walmart's ST dominance. If anything, it might even end up with there being Net10 Unlimited cdma phones (on Verizon). I'd LOVE to see that. (Anyone for trying to activate such a phone on PPC or another Verizon mvno?).
It makes sense for a gsm ST to exist in the minority areas not covered by Verizon's third tier non roaming prepaid network (tier one being the full postpaid network and tier two being prepaid with roaming charges...ST has ZERO roaming.). I see this as an attempt to address the lack of roaming.
Frankly, I see little value or reason to do it as Verizon has the single largest network and the only way to get an unlimited/heavy user rate as good as this is to cut a deal with only one network (not over thirty like they do with Tracfone/Net10 paygo).
But hey, if it allows gsm country only talkers to get ST, why not...
It has always been to the benefit of any cell phone user to determine for themselves, through research, who is their best provider. It is nice that ST now gives everyone a choice of Verizon or AT&T (T-Mobile still a ?).
But you are in the minority by far. Almost no one has better at&t coverage than Verizon. Their network just isn't as good.
Not completely in the minority. In NW Michigan Verizon's network sucks. I live less than one mile from the village corporate line and Verizon goes from not working to working with zero bars. Tracfones roam onto the Sprint tower nearby.
They are adding GSM. We arent pulling anybody's leg. I have an LG 620G. It is activated on AT&T. It has a sim card. It has an "E" by the bars signalling that it has EDGE data service. I will repost my phone pics here. notice on the bottom left of the package where it says GSM. The GSM phones may not be available in your area yet, but they are out there.

hes right guys...i bought the t401g yesterday it took 15mins to port st vzw# to st at&t..now i bought this phone 4alot of reasons, mainly for the browser..i cant believe the differents..videos games sim card after learning the web with cdma, its going 2take me awhile...as most of you guys know i dont get out much...i have one big question...where is the port for my headphones the little symbol is on the battery cover....because i had the r451c the chargers are the same but the battery not..i put my sd card in and none of my songs show up,im afraid to format it...oh 1 other thing copying my contacts and ringtones via bluetooth was a breeze..
I bought the Lg slider phone today that's new I had no idea why it had a Sim card I'm not sure if this is true but the lady I spoke with said that the "Coverage" was At&t thank god it wasn't t-mobile we don't have that where I live. She also said that the phone will Roam if you're not in the At&t Coverage area she said that if it does roam you can use the phone just like normal because I bought the 45 Unlimited service card. I like the phone but what I don't understand is why there's a thing for games and applications yet straight talk doesn't offer neither I hope someone figures out a way to get free games and apps! Any thoughts!? Also its a down fall that there is no headset jack for headphones you have to buy a Lg headset and no volume toggle on the side of the phone but for 69 dollars its a decent phone. I live in Lower Michigan and service seems to be pretty good.. Ideas guys???

How's the browser on the phone? Similar to the r451c?

You can go to to m.getjar.com on the phones browser to download free apps and games. If up top it says "phone model not recognized" you can put in your model or just go down to where it says "Choose your platform" and select Java (J2ME). Then download away. If you want the Bolt Browser just google search for it on the browser. Opera mini is available at m.opera.com If you want to download youtube videos you can get them at www.vuclip.com These GSM phones offer more freedom than the CDMA ones that straighttalk offers. My LG620G even has an FM radio, but I dont have a compatable headset to make it work. I would like to find one.
Looks like more and more that Straight Talk is becoming the unlimited/heavy user's version of Tracfone. A mix and match of gsm and cdma depending on market.
I bet a long tall dead president though that ZERO Straight Talk gsm phones can be used on other byod gsm networks though. Then again, Straight Talk gsm phones don't have the dreaded airtank like Net10 and Tracfones...right?

Tmobile is Net10 unlimited so in a way, this is already being done. Net10 unlimited is basically Target trying to do Straight Talk.
