I think all iPhone 4s have the same antenna issues. The difference in peoples grip and signal coverage makes it seem like the phones don't have the issue.
Exactly, only people with problems are gonna speak up. Everyone happy with their phone is just gonna be busy playing with it rather than talking about how normal it is. It's the whole, if a bear farts in the woods but no one is around to smell it, does it matter?

I turned on flashlight apps. Don't see any yellow spots (some of those pics on the web are BAD). I've dropped my phone, but luckily it was after I stuck it in a case. No damage thankfully (wasn't sure how much protection the Belkin Vue case would provide, but I guess it's pretty good). Now I've got a BSE full body skin on it in addition to the Belkin case. I am now less freaked when my 2.5 yr old and 9 mo old manage to find it and start playing with it. Even with a case on, it's still significantly thinner than my old Blackberry.

I agree - 95% of my use is in a very strong area, but I finally made the test work in a high rise where it's normally bad anyway. I could still make calls and loose them in certain hallways as before with a 3G. That's nothing new for my area.
I have a small yellow spot I only see with a white background. I'll exchange it at some point but not right away. I'd rather wait and see if later production runs yield a fix for some issues. In the mean time I experience much improved battery, better audio in the car (people comment on the quality when I'm in a noisy window down conversation) and the other obvious stuff.
I mentioned this in another string....Apple boosted the bars back in 08/3G days when people were complaining about not seeing enough. It's amazing no one keys on this fact. Now they're about to put it back so people can see the truth. Both Stupid PR tricks IMO.
You're either in a strong signal area or not, but Apple is not going to recommend you stay away from their product or suggest you buy it and hope.
I've set up as a new phone and also reset all settings and reset network settings multiple times and it did not resolve the proximity sensor issue, for me. I'm going to try to get a replacement tomorrow.

a reset: hold home button and on/off switch until u see the white apple - non destructive sorta like sticking a paperclip in the back of my old palm pilot and treos
second : settings>general>reset> reset network settings (you will have to re-enter passwords to wifi)
third a little more "destructive": settings>general>reset>Reset all settings. (all your apps / data remain but all other settings are stock so you gotta reset your apps on the pages you like - reset home/lock screen images re enter passwords to wifi etc)
my guess is that the second will fix 99% of all proximity and speed issues

So sorry the resets didn't work. At least u can tell the genius what you have done.
I did grab a rocketfish case that was hideous from best buy, just to see if it made a difference or not. It did not help my issues at all, so I ditched the case.
weird i have that exact same case and i havent had any probs...its actually helped...

I was surprised too. The proximity prob is annoying. I am still rocking w/o a case. I am waiting for in-case to get their ****** together and release the new model. I loved their slider case w/ my last two iphones.
I did reset the network settings as lazaruz suggested, and seemed to help my data speed issue. Thx! Proximity issue still nagging me once in a while though.
Ok so I've had two ip4s. I haven't really had any of these problems... On either. my signal even when I try to death grip it, it stays at 3-5 bar and rarely 3! Ive never muted a call or had problems there(I don't know if the sensor works properly ive never really paid attention. My ip4 is amazing!! The first one I had had a broken silent switch but my new one is going strong
Ive owned every iPhone and this one is amazing and best

I agree w/ you! This is the best iphone by far. Awesome to hear that you have not had any issues w/ either of your ip4's.
Ever since I have reset the network settings, my probs seem to be gone now. My data has been blazing fast. 5.43 mbps down and 1.269 up.
I have no issues whatsoever on my iPhone 4 that was built during week 27 (other than the small amount of ghost data it sends out every night by way of media net).

You've got hope. Someone got a replacement in another thread and the replacement didn't have the issues his original one did.
There's no way to deny that these problems exist...but it also seems to be to be hard to deny that this is the best PDA-type device available, and from what I've heard so far it will also beat the Droid X for overall supremacy.
I'd prefer not to have a bumper. But I'm lucky that in my case it has solved the antenna attenuation problem. It has not solved what I gather is a general RF signal capture problem...I thought that the external antenna was a sign they were taking RF signal capture to be the single most important thing to be fixing, but it didn't work out quite the way they planned.
As far as the proximity sensor issue goes, I think we might be hopeful that the firmware upgrade can take care of this. I can see how you might be able to tune this with the firmware.
But let's face it.
For most of us, the improvements in the device make it the best PDA-type device there is. 512 MB of RAM allow us to keep a lot of applications in memory. The A4 processor with Power VR graphics boost make it very, very speedy in moving from one application to another, and in rendering Web graphics. It's visibly speedier when compared to another device doing the same thing on the same 3G or 3.5G signal.
I don't even know how to begin to talk about the Retina Display. It's just absolutely awesome and I find myself able to read very small print that I wouldn't be able to read on most other devices. I wish we could do this with the iPad but it would probably not be cost effective pushing all those pixels on a big screen.
The iPhone 4 also looks damned great and it's a shame we have to put a bumper on it to fix the antenna attenuation...but I don't see how anybody could say that it's not the best PDA available at the moment.
I have no problems at all with mine. It's freaking awesome -- my biggest problem is trying to explain to myself why I resisted getting the iPhone for so long. I was adamant that I wasn't going to get one because people who had them were so obnoxious about how great the phone is. Over the last few months, I had tried a Storm II (I hated it) and a Droid (okay but ...) and went back to a BB Tour. I'm afraid that my BB days are now over and I'm one of the obnoxious converts now.
BTW, no bumper but I do have an Incipio Feather case. (http://www.myincipio.com/iphone-4-ca...rd-shell-case/) I would have bought one with or without the antenna issues. I had one one on my BB and I really like them because they are light and don't detract from the phone's looks (IMO), personalize it so I know it's mine (I have pink), and seem to give it a better grip. I keep it in a pouch in my purse or on my desk.
