Not sure if anyone posted it, but the Swype for Incredible beta works fine for the Desire. If they offer it, even if it costs money, as a final product, I would throw a couple bucks at it even. It does admittedly take some work to get away from the pecking of the virtual keyboard I'm used to.

I used the Incredible version link on DroidLife -

It installed on mine by going to that Droid-life link and tapping the link to the APK (the Incredible one, not the DROID/Milestone one). I then tapped the APK in my Download box after to run it. I went into Language/Keyboard Settings and enabled Swype (I also enabled Word Prediction in the Swype menu). You then go to a text message (or other text input) box, tap/hold on the text input box and pick Input method. Change it to Swype.

Worked fine for me. If you get an error or something, let me know.

Actually, I just side-loaded it. Then ran it from the SD card. When I run the APK it says "Application not installed"

Strange. I didn't do it that way so I'm not sure what the deal is. I googled for Droid-life Swype Beta on my cell, found the link, ran it from the phone. No SD card or anything involved. I don't even have my phone rooted.

I haven't had any need yet. I don't think I'm missing anything by not rooting it from what I've seen. I'm open to suggestions if you have reasons why I'm wrong in that thought.

Most of it is a time thing too. I'm in the field from 8a to 8p and then I have to come home and do my regular job. Quite a situation.

I was able to free up 8mb of storage just removing the forced apps that I don't use. Doesn't sound like much, but on a phone with limited storage, every mb counts, I'm also able to make complete backups of my phone so if I mess something up I can quickly restore back. Also able to clear the cache folder freeing up space too, I didn't find a way to do that without root permissions.

As of now no decent roms exist, tho I'm sure it's just a matter of days before someone brings out a 2.2 rom.

I had planned to hold off til then, however I just had to play

Rooting is pretty simple, set a few settings on the phone, get the pc prepped with the correct drivers, and then just run the app and wait about 5 minutes for it to do it's thing.

Opens up a lot more apps to be used as well, some of the better utilities require root permissions.

I'm bound to get there one of these days.

I haven't seen any tools I need that I haven't been able to get yet without messing with the phone. I'm hoping we'll see some better games though. Angry Birds is hilarious but I haven't seen any other games of similar type. I don't play games much, but it did get my attention.

Yeah $30 is a bit steep for me right now for an app. Gonna talk with my network admin at work and see what he uses.

I really want to get the LogMeIn being an IT guy, but need to read some more user reviews on it before I take the plunge.

Any personal experiences with it here?
I use LogMeIn (mostly on my desktop) on a daily basis (approx 200 pcs). I've used the Android app a handful of times on the Desire. Did what I needed. Might be a bit cumbersome for typing intensive uses. $29 is a bargain if I'm able to fix a problem from several hours away.

There is a free VNC client in the market, but you have to obviously know the IP of the computer you want to control.
