Can't help you on the END key, I think that is just the way it is. The Hero and Moment are the same way.
As to shutting down running programs, don't bother.

So far, it's not so bad. The screen can't be seen in sunlight, as expected. Haven't had much time to play with it though, as I just got it activated about 20 minutes ago. My one ***** about it though is that the END key turns off the display. That is a HUGE annoyance. Is there a way to turn that off, or switch it to another button or something?
I'm new to Android, so my next biggest question is how do I shut apps down so they don't rape my battery?

I received my daughter's Intercept today and since she wasn't home I decided to play with a little. My initial thought was to send it back since I found out it doesn't have rev. A after I placed the order. I was so intent on sending it back that I ordered a Moment the next day and figured I would send the Intercept back once it came so I wouldn't have to wait for the return process seeing that my daughter needs the phone for her birthday party on Saturday. Anyway the first thing I did after the activation was go to YouTube because that is what my daughter will be doing a lot of and that is one thing that has to work (smoothly) no exceptions. I watched video after video without any hesitation, buffering or slowdown of any kind and might I add they sounded really well. When I switched to high quality/full screen it ran perfectly also. Next, I synced her gMail, Facebook and Myspace accounts to the phone (yes I have all the passwords) and downloaded a couple of apps for her which went flawlessly. Next, I watched a 30 min. show on Disney with the Sprint TV app which streamed clearly and did not buffer one time and even though it doesn't have a flash for the camera it still takes decent pics. I guess the Moment will be going back when I receive it tomorrow. Coming from an EVO user I would say it is a pretty decent phone.
Thanks for the review... I'm still on the fence about a phone for my wife... Was considering the Intercept, then the Hero, then the Moment, and now still confused.
Your experience is amazingly better than the one portrayed in Mobile Tech Review. I can only conclude that in some areas, rev 0's downlink is fast enough for ordinary consumer purposes.
However:
1) rev 0's uplink is ungodly slow--essentially no different from 1xRTT (2G speed). The consumer will encounter this whenever sending a large amount of data. The most obvious example is streaming video to the web via Qik, but it may also be obvious when sending a full-sized (not downsized) 3MP photo to an email address, or uploading a video to a Facebook or YouTube account, etc.
2) Keep in mind the Intercept's other major "brain damage": a 240x400 screen instead of 320x480. Yes, 240x400 is only a little less than what the original 2-year-old Samsung Instinct had, so it's not intolerable, but it may well be noticeable in some apps. Newer Android apps are supposed to be able to handle the unusual 240x400 screen resolution, but will they do so bug-free?
In short, my own suggestion--given the fact that a Moment is coming tomorrow anyway--is to give your daughter the choice. She may indeed see the Intercept's technical shortcomings as mild or even irrelevant compared to its better styling (especially, for females, the pink floral design); but on the other hand, she may fall in love with Qik on the Moment and not want to give it up.
The ability to stream a video directly onto the web can be more than useful, it can be life-saving or freedom-saving (to show the culprit of a crime, or alternatively to prove police brutality, etc.). Even if the police seize and destroy your camera-phone as "evidence," you have already parked the incriminating video safely on the Internet for all to see.
I got the Intercept for my 12 year old son and he loves it. He's mostly into texting and light game playing. He uses the browser for not much more than checking baseball scores and looking at ESPN for the latest sports news. The REV. 0 thing means absolutely nothing to him; when he is home he's on wi-fi anyway. I have played around with it off and on and it's a pretty decent device for someone who doesn't care to have the best out there. For what my son does with his phone, the Intercept does it very well. He loves that he has an Android phone. Definitely beats the socks of the LG EnV3 he's been using. (Although that was a real nice phone too, for not being a smartphone).
