I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

$200 + tax for 16gb i4
$36 activation fee
$65 + taxes for 450 min \ 2gb
$325 etf
$626 + taxes + time dealing with ATT is the cheapest you'll get, no matter what phone you switch to on the actual account. Just go buy a contract free i4 for $599
Just to play devil's advocate here for a second, but don't you have to set up service in order to buy an iPhone 4, even if you get it contract-free? In other words, don't the $36 activation fee and the $65 first month service fee apply regardless? On the other hand, if you sign up without a contract, you should be able to cancel service immediately, so if service fees are prorated, it would be a lot less than $65, perhaps as little as $2 for 1 day. Besides, you can get the Data Plus instead of the Data Pro and save another $10.
Good point. I believe a 2 yr contract is required before they'll hand over the iPhone. Don't believe you can do it contract free unless you wanna pay full retail.
Wait for the iPhone to be sold in Canada. Then make a trip up there an get an unlocked iPhone. If you're paying full unsubsidized price, you might want to try to get an unlocked one.
Just a suggestion.

You can't buy the phone without being an AT&T customer - just get one of your buddies with an account to purchase it. It's pretty simple.
It's sad when you need a runner to buy a cell phone for you.

Second that! If you're willing to pay full retail you have a right to get a factory-unlocked phone. Canada/UK FTW!
