Droid X not compatible with linux ? no obex either?

So im trying to just hook my DX up to my laptop running linux 9.10. My storm wasnt compatible with linux for desktop manager, but it allowed me to plug it in and at least browse the SD card, like an external HD. When i plug in the DX, it wont let me use the media share thing it prompts because it says i have no SD card, which seems to show unavailable when plugged in. And then ill select USB MASS STORAGE or whatever in teh connections screen where you pick PC or CHARGING ONLY menu. But when i remove the USB, my SD card goes back to being recognizable .

What gives? Why cant i at least just view the contents of the SD on my laptop. I dont need to sync anything, I just want to plug both my storm and my DX into my laptop, and transfer the 7 gigs of content on my storms SD card, to the 16 gig in the DX.

Also...i downloaded the blue tooth file transfer programs, and connected to my friends HTC hero. It wouldnt allow me to transfer files because it said i was missing the OBEX required. But i could receive from him. Did vzw really jip us of that? Moto did it to my razor and that was a big shame. Or is there just an app i can dl to fix that as well?

Not sure if maybe you have to load the drivers through the respiratory or not. Since I don't have my Droid X. Its been a while but I believe my Droid does Ubuntu 9.10 just fine on my Dell laptop. As for Blue Tooth transfer I didn't think that will ever work as OBEX file transfer is disabled. I find it quick to remove the card and use my card reader with a faster transfer rate.

I can't speak to linux, but...

The X doesn't include OBEX FTP as one of its bluetooth profiles/protocols. It does appear to contain OBEX OPP natively.

Astro file manager, and its bluetooth module does work on the X to provide BT OBEX FTP. Its a little slow opening folders from the PC, but it does work.

Thats exactly what we did..astro file manager and bluetooth file transer app. and it wouldnt work. Said OBEX was not supported by my device.

But anyone..is there anyway to make this thing work on ubuntu? I figured since android is just a mobile version of linux id have no issues. I just want to see it as an external drive

From the app drawer, hit Astra Bluetooth. Make sure the box for OBEX FTP Server is set. Then try it.

yeah thanks mark! Not to worried about the bluetooth anymore. Found a nice app called BUMP that transfers whatever by bumping phones together.

And after a few more reboots of my PC and X, they finally synced together and allowed me to see the X as a 16gb external drive on my desktop. Thanks again
