Okay so I've added beautiful/fancy widgets to my Droid X and got rid of most of the stock Moto apps/replaced them with better versions found in the marketplace, and just set up Launcher Pro. So far, the phone is looking and working much better than out of the box, except for one thing: With Launcher Pro, the stock Moto widgets I actually DO like and use (the contacts shortcuts) aren't able to be resized.
I figure this is just an issue with the Ninja-Blur overlay, but is there any way to resize these widgets when using Launcher Pro? I also don't see a way to quickly exit Launcher Pro to get to the stock launcher, without uninstalling? Not sure if I'm missing something, but Launcher Pro doesn't show up in my App drawer at all, only in the Manage Applications menu, and I don't see a way to stop it there. It won't show up in my Task Killer, either.
First I've read in the main thread for the Droid X that LP will be updated to allow for resizing the blur widgets. So look out for and update in the near future. A paid app was just launched by the dev so you may want to look into that as well.
In regards to switching between LP and the regular launcher I think an app called Home Switcher is what you need. Again I am recalling this from the main thread, I may be wrong as I just use the standard launcher for know.
Awesome, thanks. I hadn't had a chance to catch up with the main Droid X thread yet. I'm downloading the Home switcher now, and actually just got the paid app as well. It's great that there will be an update to accomodate the resizable widgets in the future, I'll be looking out for it. Now that I can get the Droid X moving fast and looking pretty I'm much, much more inclined to stick with it instead of downgrading to an Incredible.
I consider this a possible bug and/or poor implementation of a "feature".
By default the Voice Command utility is set to launch when you "double tap" home. ( go to: settings>applications>double tap home launch) Well being an Android OS newbie, but having full command of the English language, I double tapped on my Home screen and... nothing happened! Then, remembering that my daughter's Droid has soft keys that are indeed tappable, I double clicked the Home (hardware)key and this finally brought up the default app. i.e.- Voice command.
This is clearly a throwback to the Droid's UI where double tapping a softkey makes sense. The DroidX has a pretty solid build quality but I don't wanna go pushing my luck by double clicking any hardware keys on this device.
btw- I already know that holding down the search key also brings up the Voice command utility.

You don't want to use the buttons because you are afraid you will wear them out? Ok, then just make a shortcut to Voicedial on your Home. Or use LauncherPro and make it one of your 5 stationary icons along the bottom.
Question about Bluetooth Activated Voice Dialing...which I am very happy the Droid X has, because I use it all the time, but...
If my screen lock is on, OR, the phone has timed out and the passcode lock comes on, I can't initiate a Bluetooth call--I have to first unlock the screen or unlock the phone. And if I am on a long call, and go past the 20 minutes my passcode timer is set for, I can't initiate a call. Am I missing something? Or is this just someone not thinking at Motorola/Google.
For you bluetooth users, what is your experience? (I use a Motorola H710 bluetooth).
Thanks, Gary

Reason: typo
is there a basic tutorial anyway on widgets and how to move things around? I need very basic level stuff...
Also, any recs on a calendar/weather widget?
Exploring by pressing and holding on widgets gives you some options. Also, before you set on one of your screens, you sometimes are asked to configure the settings before you place it.
Now, I noticed someone say they got rid of the default Moto apps that start up on their own. How does one remove those apps?
I have two questions (one i posted in the release thread, but I expect it to get buried):
1. Is there a way to prevent the phone from ever going into car dock or multimedia dock mode? (I'm having a problem with magnets causing this to happen repeatedly, even when the phone is locked, and I don't have a dock so don't need those modes at all).
2. Email: I set up my Hotmail and Yahoo accounts. In Hotmail, the only folders that show up are Inbox, Trash, Outbox, Sent. I have many other folders on that account which I can't access. In Yahoo, all my folders show up. Is there anything I can do to be able to view my full Hotmail account (other than logging in on a web browser)?
1. I maintain a "spam" gmail account that I like to check from my phone from time to time. With bberry, I can just switch accounts. Is there any way to basically set up my second account on the droid so I can check it but not get notifications from it when I get new emails?
2. Is there any way to make the text messaging app vibrate and pop up on my screen with the text I got when I get a new text message? Do I need to download a new app for this? IF so, any recommendations?
3. I tried to buy Beautiful Widgets and it said my CC could not be used for the transaction. Any ideas why? (It's an AMEX)
With Launcherpro, I'm unable to have the "contact quick tasks" widget function/look like it did when I first turned the phone on with ninja-blur. I actually like having a list of "favorite" contacts where I could quickly call them or send a text and I'm wondering if anyone has had any success getting this widget to work with Launcherpro
Swype Tip: When you have a text input screen, tap and hold the text box (where any typed data would go)and eventually a box comes up that gives you the choice of input method. You can use the standard keyboard, swype, or any custom keyboard you may have installed.
Text message question: When I use my volume rocker to change the ring status to vibrate, the text message goes to silent. I only know a text came in if I see the blinking light. How do I make the phone vibrate for a received text when the ringer is set to vibrate? Also can the phone screen be set to turn on briefly when a text comes in while the phone is on vibrate, just like if it were to ring?

1. You'd have to setup an "exchange" account for this. Bascially you go in and add an account, and then enter the exchange information for Gmail. You have to enable this in your Gmail account settings on your computer. Then there will be a link that has all of the information. Once you get that setup, you'll access it like a corporate account email, not from the Gmail application built in.
2. Handcent SMS does this.
3. Probably because it is AMEX. A lot of places don't take that and depending on what company the guy lives in that could be the determining factor. Worked fine with my Visa.
