Using my Sanyo SCP 2700 as a modem

I know it is not going to be a very good connection but when it is all you can get in a pinch then believe me you are thankful for it. I used to have the Motorola i465 Clutch and could get online with it by just making a dial up connection and dialing *90# with no user name or password. Does anyone know what i would dial using my Sanyo SCP 2700? *90# does not work and neither does 777 with web web as user name and password or even qnc as user name and password. Any help would be appreciated. When you are stuck in a rest area in an 18 wheeler and need an internet connection to check on something important..... need i say more lol

    Thanks in advance

I think I found out part of my problem. i did a diagnostic on my sanyo modem on the phone. I get this.

    AT+FCLASS=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
    AT#CLS=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
    AT+GCI? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
    AT+GCI=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED

any help with this would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Hi Rick, Hope the driving gig has been profitable. Three things to discuss: <1>: I think Boost is running on the Sprint network I'm not sure? I mention that because I USED to tether frequently with my outmoded but rugged Sanyo SCP 3100. It gave reliable connections at three times the normal "dial-up" speed. Then it happened: Sprint told me they would not renew the tether feature in my contract as they no longer intended to offer that form of tethering. So, if you are on Boost, and, if they are piggybacking on the Sprint CDMA system, then that feature might have been obsoleted for you too. <2>: Sprint, (and possibly Boost?) do offer a much more modern way to "tether"....wirelessly...but only on certain high end phones, and it costs much more. Of course the data speed is much higher too. <3>:There is probably also a "cap" at five Gigabytes of data....that's about one DVD disk full of data. Go over that and you'll wanna drive over a cliff when you get the bill! So you have to keep checking your usage: *2 on my Sprint phone, and follow the commands...Still, if you only want one line of service as opposed to one for the net and one for your phone, it might fit your needs and you might even be able to get by with just using the high end phone as a way of having internet...depending on what internet products and services you use. The tethering feature on these new expensive phones is now called "Wireless Hot Spot Feature" or some such and sort of like a home router it can connect multiple devices so check the manual and possibly your settings or the guy in that Peter-built next to you might grab a connection from you and use up your 5GB! Good Luck.

one last thought: re those error codes: Assuming you still have classic tether: you might need an app called "DATAPILOT" or at least get the hardware "drivers" out of a copy.

Hi SignalGuy, Thanks for the info. Will have to look into that. Just need the tethering for when I am not near a truck stop where I have already paid for the wifi. I have drivers downloaded just do not know what number to dial as well as what what is going on with the error codes. Will try the download you suggested as well. Thanks.

I have been reading this post for a friend that has a sanyo juno scp2700 and she has been using it for facebook mainly and I was looking at seeing if she could tether or not. I really have not learned anything here but do want to make note of several things FYI. I have sprint service and yes we can get the hotspot or wi-fi feature for $30 a month which makes it very easy to just plug and go and also allow you to receive calls and other features. The thing with this is that with the new android phones, there is no way sprint can stop you from tethering using any of the great new programs that are out there like PDAnet or easytetherlite. These programs are put on your android phone and on your computer and since the new phones all have data features, there really is no way to stop anyone with a data plan from using these programs to get around the $30 fee. I do not know if they would work for you or not. My plan is unlimited data. There are 6 people on my line and we only have 1500 shared minutes and have never gone over. Sprint now has plans that include free cell to cell (sprint to ANY other cell carrier) our free time starts at 7pm and on weekends and last month we only used under 900 of those minutes. The featues can't be beat and I also have a contact to get you a discount on your service if you are interested. I know I sound like a sprint commercial but I was with Verizon for over 20 years and never had any of the freedom I have with sprint. The cell to cell feature alone is worth a lot to me.
My friend does not have an android phone so I am not sure that she will be able to tether anyway but one of my phones is not an android (HTC touch pro) and we have been successfully tethering with it since I started with them over a year ago.
I do not know how or if they tell you that this thread has had any activity but if so, I will check back in and see what, if anything I can do to help her along with this.
    Thanks,
    Shary
