Why do people constantly ***** about the cost of minutes on TF? Yes, TF's minutes are more expensive than others in the market. If you use a lot of minutes, TF isn't for you. However, if you don't use many minutes, TF gives you 90 days, more than anyone else, for $20, bringing your monthly cost to $6.67, roughly. If you want to use a lot of minutes, you are probably better served by another mvno. However, if you like being able to pick up a phone for $20 and, upon activation have 140 minutes and 120 days of service, TF is an attractive deal. If you want a backup phone for emergencies, ditto. If you just love Tracfone for some reason you CAN get minutes that are good for a year and are less than $.07 a minute, you just have to be able to pay $200 up front for them.

Then again, I suspect that if Tracfone suddenly gave some folks everything they ever said they wanted, those people would suddenly find something else to complain about.

If Tracfone wasn't making money, they would change. If they can make money and maintain market share while charging a higher price than competitors, what rational business person would lower their prices?

More than anyone else? Actually pageplus gives you 120 days at approx $2.65 per month if you add a $10 card.

I'm not sure that I have seen much complaining here about cpm. Of course it does get mentioned on occasion.
I recently tested the "don't mention a PP Dealer by name" rule here on PP Hofo......trust me, it is still in effect - got me a 7 day ban.

Fair enough. PP is less expensive for a longer time. I guess there is something to be said for the ease of picking up an airtime card.

If you buy a $20 phone that comes with DMFL and a 60 min card and activate it online you have a total of 140 minutes and 120 days of service. For example the t301g has this deal right now.

I never said everyone was constantly complaining. But there are folks who love to complain whenever they get the chance.

My point still stands. If Tracfone wasn't making money they would change. If they are making money and are able to charge a premium for their product, what business in their right mind would decide to lower their prices. I find it hilarious all the cell phone industry experts know what Trac should do.

25jive1 sums it up nicely when he says "IMO its just a money maker for Trac...charging for something that should be normal procedure and free." Of course it is a money maker. That is why they are in business. Who is anyone to say what "should be normal procedure and free"? Just because someone wants certain things doesn't mean that Trac or any other company should do it. Like I said before, if someone doesn't think Trac's business model is good for them they shouldn't use Trac.

I have to agree and not agree at the same time.

A company making money is fine but when they get to a certain point of ruining there street creds they are in trouble in the long run. If another Prepaid company comes out with a same type of quality and price how many would switch in a heart beat? I know i would.

The comments about good and bad i like to hear so i can make a judgement call to stay with them or not. If i am new to all this then it would help me decide if i wanted to try tracfone.

The only problems i have is not the cost of mins but how they keep disabling my DMFL on my phone and have to waste my mins to fix it. I am one of the people that use tracfone for main source of a phone. They should have a free min line to call when they screw up so it does not cost you 20-60 mins of airtime to get mins credited to you. They screwed up not me and make me pay to fix it is just sad. I got sick of them doing it i bought my LG 420g which is amazing btw.

They got good coverage where i am for 3 of my 4 phones. They finally got a good prepaid phone aka lg 420g. The min price is decent for me with the DMFL. The call quality is not bad in my area.

The only bad thing that would make me change is they just tend to milk you out of money like not giving double mins when your phone came with DMFL. You then talk to there tech support which has to be one of the top 5 worst CS that i talked to. You can feel them trying to cheat people talking to them.

So if you get no problems to fix this is a great service.

That is certainly a problem, no argument there. However, find a payphone. They still exist and calling an 800 number is free from them. Their CS does suck, unfortunately, no doubt about that.

As far as TF's street cred, I don't know. I think they have all they need. If they lose market share, they will change. There are plenty of choices out there. Personally I like the fact that I can have an inexpensive cell phone always available and go anywhere. If something happens to my phone I can get a new one anywhere that has stores. Ditto w/airtime.
