How long should a number port take?

I ported my number in from AT&T. My phone arrived via UPS on Tuesday and was immediately activated (3PM ET or so). About 7 hours later text messages started appearing on the new phone. As I type this post all incoming calls are still going to the old phone... It's been about 36 hours since activation. Am I being impatient?

I don't think so, my port took just a few minutes. Call CS!

First thing, make sure that the old phone is left off and then test. If still not resolved, as CA mentioned, call customer service but make sure you do it from a different phone # (preferably a landline phone).
If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

Yeah, the old phone must be off.

A number port should be instant...or within a few minutes.

I spoke to someone in the porting department who advised me of that. Within seconds of the phone being shut off the port was completed.

Verizon must have gotten cheaper. My phone came with bolded instructions to turn the old phone off for the port! You couldn't miss it!
Today a group of leading venture capitalists published an open letter to the FCC calling on them to prevent what they say would be the end of net neutrality and a crippling blow to young startups.
No Google, say it ain't (or wouldn't of been ) so! ATT and Verizon would have killed their own cash cow.

My ports all took well under 5 minutes too, and you have solved your troubles.. But I have heard to allow "up to" 24 hours.
