I just started using a Plantronics 975 and the outgoing sound quality is definitely quite good (as everyone here already knows). The incoming sound is slightly digitized but it's not that bothersome.
I am, however, having a potential dealbreaker issue with the battery life. I'm quite sure that I can't get more than 2-2.5 hrs talk time + 6 hrs standby (combined), whereas I need a good 3.0-3.5 hrs talk time + 9 hrs standby (combined), something I used to be able to get from my BlueAnt Z9i.
Does 2-2.5 hrs talk time + 6 hrs standby (combined) sound about right or do you think I got a defective (or at least underperforming) one? I really want to try to keep this headset but I won't be able to do so if it keeps this type of battery performance.
Chuck - I suspect you'll chime in here, as I know that you're the Plantronics expert
I can't chime in...I don't have, and have never used a 975. I do have the Pro, which seems to be the same thing, but with the giant battery life, so if the 975 doesn't work out I can definitely recommend the Pro.
My thoughts are leaning in this direction...for all its strengths the 975 is tiny. I mean physically. The headset is hardly bigger than a large earring. So, how big could the battery be? The charging case has its own battery for "top ups" so the tiny internal battery can last through the day.

i get about 4 hours of talk on my 925 but the noise reduction may use more juice on the 975. i dont keep it on when not in use so I dont know standby or combo time.
WirelessAndy is the 975 guru, but I respect Chuckknights opinion immensly as well.

I leave on my Pro while driving...and I drive a LOT. Part of living in Texas is that everything is a long way away.
I routinely get all day of use out of my Pro, and a few days more of standby...but I'm not *talking* on it the whole time. I find its battery life to be slightly less than that of the 510, but only slightly, if that tells you anything.
If the 975 gets the battery life it claims, I would be positively amazed...the internal battery can't be bigger than a baby aspirin. BUT, Plantronics is known for actually delivering the goods...not for making false claims.
Thanks for everyone's thoughts thus far. Of course, talk time eats up a lot of the battery life and I am on the phone a good 2.5-4 hrs per day (or more). I honestly don't believe anyone's specs (including Plantronics), as those times always seem inflated (same as with laptops, cell phones, etc).
Does anyone have any day-to-day experience using the 975 for a few hours of talk time for comparison? I would be glad to exchange the one I have if it's got battery issues but I don't want to bother if it doesn't...

the amount of dsp needed can make a huge difference. if your dsp is kicking in constantly that could do it.
me personally? if its an easy exchange Id do it in a heartbeat.

FWIW, I happen to use my Plantronics for back-to-back conference calls as soon as I started my day (literally as soon as I turned it on) and it only lasted for 2:46, which is crazy considering there was no standby involved. I was in my office with the door closed so the silence should have created minimal DSP.
I'm going to try exchanging this one to see if I got a bad one. In the meantime, BlueAnt just introduced a new headset - the Q2 - that they are claiming is their best headset yet. I'm going to give that a try too.
I use my bluetooth for really long periods of time w/ my gf. Last month my talk time was 3.5 hours till it gave me that low battery signal. Now I get that low battery signal in 2.5 hours...
My guess is that lower talk time isn't due to the unit, but to the nature of Lithium-based batteries. Lithium does have a capacity loss over time, which gives a lower talk time...
