    Google navigation on droid x

I can't seem to get GPS to lock in on my new x. I don't understand it at all. I've factory reset it several times, installed older versions of google maps, checked and unchecked the different gps settings... All to no avail. My original Droid never had a problem. Is this a common problem with the X? If it is, I'm going to have to return it. I spend way too much time on the road to live without it. I'm going to call and see if I can exchange it... But wanted to check in here to see if others are having the same issue.

Thanks for asking! I've used both and get varying results. But the bottom line is this... Gps locks in when I am standing still. But as soon as I get up above 20 mph, it starts moving 3 or more streets in any direction... Very frustrating. I spent a lot of time on the phone with technical support. They went through all the typical troubleshooting... Compass calibration, factory resets, etc. They even put me on hold and got a motorola rep on the line. That rep asked all the same questions and then finally agreed to send me a new phone. Should have it by Friday. I'll check back in after I try the new one for awhile.

What are the best GPS settings? Do I want to have "Enable Assisted GPS" checked?

No, the one above that in the settings menu.

My only problem with Navigation is that after 10 min. or so the screen will blank out and revert to Home. Why doesn't it stay on the entire time?

Yeah the screen going dark and locking the phone when its plugged in is a real problem when you are running Navigation.

You could do this. Settings > Applicatons > Development > select don't timeout screen when plugged in.

It appears that the new version of Google Maps may have fixed this problem.

You're right its still happening. It was weird though on my way to work the screen never went dark but on my way home it did.

I had GPS and aGPS on yesterday and took my X for its first short(about 85 miles) road trip. The screen(just got it on the 27th) never went black and the Satellite view is amazing.

I use the car dock and it works fine.... except I can't hear the navigation voice. That's a general issue with the X being way too quiet.
The GPS locks fine for maps, google earth, navigation. In the car dock, the screen does not turn off. There are specific dock settings though. I know there is a setting *somewhere* for the screen to never turn off (automatically) when plugged into a power source.

It definitely sounds like you had a bum unit.

Come to think of it, my screen never goes off if in navigation. The phone can sit on my car's seat without being plugged in and it won't go off. The OP's settings must be off.

Many people have had the problem-me included. Doubt it's a settings issue.

Google doesn't have access to assisted gps / a-gps so the time to fix is slow ...not too sure about the accuracy either
