WIND Needs to Worry About Chatr!

You can use 3G phones, and data coming soon.

These were the two points most people were counting they would not offer, but according to their web site 3G is available right away and data is coming soon.

Although I want Wind and the new entrants to succeed this has now become more difficult, specially when Bell and Telus join in.

yes it has, but perhaps this is all Canadians wanted, competitive pricing. And if the consumers allow these companies to win again, it just may be the lesson they needed.

And Rogers is doing it right, top-up day is the day of the month you activated.

Thousands of retailers already distributing them.

    Top-Up Cards available very shortly.

    And awesome coverage.

    DONE.

No thats incorrect. Almost all or just all AWS phones support the 2G GSM network which is the network Fido, Rogers, and now Chat-r use. So if you unlock your AWS phone, you can use the SIM card of any of those providers. Chat-r does not use the AWS network from what I know.

Thank you, that is correct. All WIND, and Mobilicity phones are AWS, and are backwards compatible with Chat-R.

@Plazmic Flame, this is how WIND uses AWAY Zones currently right now, it falls back onto Rogers 2G network.

Why would anyone want to go with Chatr? They are owned by Wind. I have been with Rogers, then with Fido, also owned by Rogers, so why would I want to go with another version of Fido. The Big 3 will always be the same. I have been very happy with Wind.

The question is, why does Rogers have to offer a whole new brand when they could just use the Rogers brand?

Seems the reason is simple, Rogers wants to use their dominant position to use Chatr to fight the competition so they can more easily axe Chatr and the lower prices when competition is gone.

Sounds like competition is good now, but what about in the future?

Can anyone point out where the reference to 3G phones and data "coming soon"? I can't seem to find it on the Chat-r website. This is a surprising move by Rogers if this is true.

WIND does not need to worry about Chatr. Only idiot consumers will move to Chatr, and like Tony2468 pointed out, they'll get the blunt end of it. We'll have the last laugh.

Actually, the only people who should be worried about Chatr are existing Rogers customers; there's no chance in hell anymore that they'll get better value for their plans!

Wind SHOULD be worried about chat-r considering the voice plans and zones are identical. They have the potential to take away new and current subs looking for voice only plans. This actually benefits existing Rogers customers as it gives them more leverage negotiating with retentions.

Potentpotable: "Only idiot consumers will move to Chatr,..."

I think there may be a few other types such as:

Those who want reliable service, I think you may me able to relate to this considering your rant posts on poor service on Wind a few weeks ago.

Existing big 3 customers including Roger's own who will be able to cut their costs considerably by switching.

I know that a lot of these people will wait until data is available but once it is this barrier will be gone, maybe then only idiots will stay with the big 3 legacy brands.

The only people who will be flocking to Chatr are those who don't do their research and have no clue about the state of wireless, and who will be caught entirely by surprise when Chatr folds in oblivion after a couple of years (or less). Edit: in response to rchl, yes there are also those who want a more reliable network (not that Rogers is that much better, from years of personal experience), but see my first point again.

And given the genius of Rogers, they already have strategies to effectively refuse Rogers customers looking to get Chatr-level deals. You want call display for free? Well too bad! Rogers is a premium brand, not a measly discount one like Chatr.

Come on, just because it takes Rogers to put out a decent brand with similar and identical offerings to WIND doesn't make them worse. their network is better, and their issues will be lesser because of their wireless experience, technology and understanding of the markets.

Chat-r will have 100,000 subscribers in a 1/3 of the time it took WIND.
