Chatr sim locks/network locks on Rogers and Chatr phones

I am planning to sign up with chatr tomorrow, having read thru several threads, I am still trying to figure out if I can use an old Rogers sim card (not used since new phones upgraded had new sim cards)

If you have not used the old Rogers AND it is NOT registered to a phone number then you can use it with Chatr. What I would recommend is call Rogers to check if that SIM card is registered to a phone number and is usable.

I did end up trying all the 3 old rogers sims that i had and each time going through the chatr registration, initially going through fine and at the end the error message says "sim card already in use". I guess that's because the sim cards were resgistered to my old cell phone number (even though if I put the sim into an unlocked phone now, it would say "unregistered sim"). I would thikn that then there is no way to use these old SIMs as they are somehow still in the Rogers system? I wonder if I could call up Rogers and have them "discharged" the sim card completely?

I had a brand new Rogers sim card that, unbeknown to me, was registered to my old Rogers postpaid #, which has now been ported out to Bell. Recently I tried to use that sim card to activate a Rogers prepaid account, and of course, it didn't work. I took the sim card down to a Rogers Plus store and exchanged it free of charge for another one. I still had mine in the sealed plastic wrap so for me it was no problem proving that the sim was never used by me. So maybe you can get them to exchange a new one for you.
