- My number is still being ported from Wind to Chatr. It's been almost 12 hrs and transition is still not done yet.
- I got my Wind mobile phone (Huawei U7519) unlocked and it works great on Chatr.
- I tried to put the Chatr sim into one of the locked Fido phones and it did not recognize the sim. So I guess it works only on locked Rogers phones.
I switched from Wind Mobile to Chatr because I'd rather enjoy Chatr's coverage while it lasts.
Wind Mobile won't die off but Mobilicity and Public mobile would. Soon after Rogers eliminate Mobilicity and Public mobile, they will pull off Chatr and merge the customer base with Rogers. That's probably why the Chatr sim cards work on rogers phones, but does not work on Fido phones.
As soon as that happens, I'm gonna switch back to Wind.
I've been a big supporter of Wind but the network coverage and the quality of their calls are unbearable. Hopefully those issues will be resolved by the time Chatr is pulled out by Rogers.

Reason: addition of the word "locked"
My number is still being ported from Wind to Chatr. It's been almost 12 hrs and transition is still not done yet.
I also had some issues initially converting my Telus number to Chatr. At first, the guy at the porting dept. said he did not see my temporary number being activated, which wasn't true because I paid the $40+tax for the first month on credit card at the booth + signed up for autopay. He said that there was some conflicting information at their end regarding on whether temp. number was active and said he would call me back later. About 1/2 hour later he said they have resolved the "information conflict", do the porting right away and should be done in 10 min.
However, he had to call me back the 3rd time; as it turned out, the guy at the Chatr booth in SQ1 assigned me a 289 [Oakville] number as my temp number and I want to port over a 647 number, which belongs to a different calling area and that's a no-no. Thus this guy went on a conference call with a customer service rep to assist me in changing the temp. number over to a 416 number (even for just 5 min), then proceed to place the porting request with Telus and that was successful.
They were very professional during the process, apologized to me a few times along the way. They have even established the call my land line, made sure that I answered via land before asking me to hand up on the cell (because my cell will be cut off when they did the temp. number change and finally the number to be ported.

Depending on which Fido phone you have. I doubt that my Fido-locked Siemens M55 (got before the Fido/Rogers merger) will accept a Rogers SIM.
Perhaps the newer generations of Fido phones and SIMs are interchangable with Rogers, but I have not touched anything Fido for 5 years.
That's probably why the Chatr sim cards work on rogers phones, but does not work on Fido phones.
I failed to see your line of reasoning here. They may have keep certain series of SIM cards separate in order to maintain "backwards compatiblity". For example, what if I want to sign up for Fido service now using my 8-year old Siemens M55? If Fido swapped all of their SIM cards over to Rogers network code, they'll have nothing to service these handsets.

Why you think wind will survice while Mobilicity and public will die?
I love E71 E71 How to Guide
Provided that time and parts are available, there is nothing one cannot fix.
Wind has a substantial customer base already and their main financial backer is a pretty big company according to what I've heard. Mobilicity and Public just entered the market. They won't survive for long. Wind and Chatr will sweep em away.

yea, they just ported over my number. I got the txt saying the transition is complete. So it took about 18 hrs to get the whole thing done.
I don't know I bought this Fido phone last year. It's a sony ericsson t715a

Substantial customer base? I think you need to look at that again. a smidgen over 200k, after being told its WELL north of 250k is a tad of a fib. The backer is a big company BUT both Oascom and Vimpelcom combined made about what rogers made in profits and that is scary. Rogers with 9 million subs and the other 2 with well over 100 million subs. I am afraid changes are coming and not for the better. Oascom will take their money and wash their hands of this mess. Vimpelcom will make some nasty nasty changes and I feel that Tony Jabroni will be claiming that he was duped and lied to. I can see Chat-r just adding the data and ending this silly process. I think no one would argue that it would be a game changer.

I'm so annoyed my husband is still paying over $55 for basic Rogers (uses an ancient flip phone) and I want him to switch to Chatr. Can he just port over without paying an ECF? Don't ask. He's finally agreed that the $25/mo he will save at Chatr can be better spent somewhere else..sighh.
On the Rogers 'Family Extortion Plan' Bills are $170-$200/mo
iPhone 4s,($85 + $12) for myself
Motorola V360 dumbphone ($25 + $8) for my husband
Nokia 5300 XpressMusic dumbphone ($25) for my 12 year old son
400 shared daytime mins, My10 Canada wide, VM CID on iphone, CID on Motorola, 2G data, Canada wide LD

Old Fido locked phones won't work on Rogers SIM without unlocking. Newer Fido locked phones will work on Rogers SIM without unlocking. Chatr SIM will work on locked Rogers phone. Rogers SIM works on Chatr activation. If newer Fido locked phones work with Rogers SIM, then it's probably possible for it to work with Chatr SIM also.
Example: Siemens M55 is considered old (school) Fido phone. So it needs to be unlocked (it is unlockable).
I think Chatr SIM has no difference than Rogers SIM, from all intent and purposes.
I have an iphone 4 locked to FIDO? Would my chatr sim card work once i cut it down to size? Going through the net trying to find a credible source on how to unlock/jailbreak an iphone 4 is unbearable!
Okay so i purchased an unlock program online and wehnt through the entire process. Looks like my phone is unlocked now but it keeps saying 'invalid sim'
