I searched and didn't find a definitive answer on this topic. I know how to port a number to tracfone. However say, for instance, I have a postpaid plan that the contract is up and I want to find something else. In the meantime I don't want the postpaid plan anymore and want to park my number. So, I port it to a tracfone. Now say I decide I want to go to ST/Virgin?even another postpaid. Will I be able to port my number out of Tracfone and onto a new service? If so how would I do so exactly? Porting is very convenient, as are prepaid phones. However, if they "trap" your number that is a pretty good sized aggravation.
When you have a Tracfone, your number is really from AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, whatever carrier Tracfone is using for your phone. So the porting is just like any other porting. You ask your new phone service to get the number from Tracfone.
OK, I have never ported a number before. I just heard you need to have an account number, which I don't have with TF (is the IMEI considered the account number). Just a little paranoid as I heard that if a port fails you lose that number and I really don't want to lose the number.
I believe that basically the TF account number is the TF phone number. In any case, your new carrier is likely to have experience with TF and will know what to do. Hopefully.
If you just want to park a number, a TF purchased from a Veterans Hospital gift shop should come with one year of service. You could theoretically park a number for a year for $10.
