    On the contrary, I think this phone is one of the best purchases I made in my life, before beyond talk I could not justify buying pricey data plans. Even when locked down, unlimited google maps with location and opera are a great value especially to those who have never had mobile data. Now that a app workaround has been discovered, I've added more useful apps like bolt lite, gmail, and gcal in addition to a bunch of games.

    The only phone that is officially open is the blackberry but is an extra $10/mth. I'm glad I got the touch now that we can load apps, the BB may have more apps and tethering(blocked on touch a least for now) but consider what you can do with an extra $120 a year + $150 saved on the phone. The price difference may not be much for someone coming from a contract plan but for someone on a limited income I save a great deal.

    Mint App

    Wow, this thread was like hitting the jackpot!

    Has anybody been able to try to get the Mint app to work? That would be a great app to have.

    Not much into games, more into making my life easier for less! That is why I picked up this phone. I just want to thank everyone for all their hard work.

    One last thing, does anybody know how to delete the installed Email+Im?

    That's great, But you don't have complete freedom to a phone that you bought.

    We are discussing the phone and the phones ability to install apps, not so much the plan and the apps that come with the phone.

    lol

    It looks like you missed the point rocke86 was making in regards to this/your comment. He was pointing out that you are the one missing out and we should feel bad for you because the lockdown is 90% bypassed with only the tethering issue to deal with. And he answered your question about their other phones. Seems you are the only one not getting how much was accomplished here and just how valuable the phone is now due to the hard work we have all put in. Also in contrary to your statement, I also, almost didn't buy it but since I new the capabilities of the phone I decided it was worth the challenge. For some like yourself it may not be worth it, but the rest of us on here it is more than so. This is the purpose of this forum, to bring out the full potential of this phone and share the findings, not for those that didn't put the time, money and effort into it and don't even realize what they are missing.

    For the Rumor Touch to actually be a smartphone it must possess a pure processor, and at least 512 mb of internal memory. I like the idea of being able to categorize this phone as a "smartphone" but it simply is not. This is a messenging phone with smartphone capabiltites.

    Everyone has a different definition of a smartphone. But to limit its definition by hardware is a bit short sided. There are many smartphones with different processors and memory. What makes a true smartphone is its capabilities, and then hardware. A smartphone is one device that can take care of all of your handheld computing and communication needs in a single, small package. It's not so much a distinct class of products as it is a different set of standards for cell phones to live up to. Here's a list of some of the things smartphones sholud be able to do to clasify as a smartphone:

    * Send and receive mobile phone calls – some smartphones are also 3g or WiFi capable
    * Personal Information Management (PIM) including notes, calendar and to-do list
    * Communication with laptop or desktop computers
    * Data synchronization with applications like Microsoft Outlook and Apple's iCal calendar programs
    * E-mail
    * Instant messaging
    * Applications such as word processing programs or video games
    * Play audio and video files in some standard formats

    Although it is a phone that is locked down by VM, making it a dumb smartphone, it does meet all the criteria of a smartphone. This can be a useless debate though. There is currently no official definition but to make things easier just imagine merging the capabilities of a cell phone and a PDA. Judging a smartphone solely by its hardware is somewhat redundant considering the pace which processors and memory grow each year. Todays smartest smartphone will be tomorrows slowest texting phone by this logic.

    Thumbs up Phones good to me...

    I personally HATE the idea of spending 120 bucks a month on a contract phone and service so i went with the Rumor Touch cuz it was cheap. Obviously I knew it wasnt going to be the smartest phone or the greatest phone but it works. I knew the apps on it were gonna suck but it texts, can do email, plays videos, allows me to listen to my music on a standard pair of headphones and takes pretty decent pictures and video. All this extra stuff that has been done on this forum is a great bonus. How can you go wrong? I remember when i purchased this phone from RadioShack and the stupid sales associate chick tried to make fun of me for wanting a Rumor Touch... tried telling me it didnt have a web browser lol. my point is, ppl want Blackberry's and iPhone's and Android phones because yes they are great phones but ppl also dont want to be left out of having the "popular" phone... Phones like this one get a bad wrap even with all the extra work-arounds and cracks just because there not one of the previously mentioned brands.

    Is there any other music players besides LPlayer that work for this phone tho? I tried iPlayer and Glass and they both didnt work...

    I use Evan mp3 player that I found for the Samsung Behold and it works better than the one I got specifically for the touch for some reason. Here you go....

    yeah radioshack always tries to steer you towards contracts. I had an employee tell me virgin doesnt offer data, and i told him yes, and its unlimited, then he tried to tell me that they are 2g which is another lie, and then he told me you cant view youtube vids on the Touch or the BB and so i told him he was an idiot and walked out.

    It seems to glitch or freeze when adding music files, but its just working on the task. I just set it in the background and let it do its thing. A few minutes later, depending how much music you have, it works just fine. The only other thing I noticed is that it has trouble reading the tags. But no big deal. I think it beats the others as far as UI.

    Evan player seems to be the best of the two so I got rid of the Lplayer. Evan player is completely touch screen, to adjust the volume touch play in the main menu, touch now playing, touch select, then you will see all the controls.
