Installing non-VM apps on Rumor Touch

I'll be VERY suspicious of anything released after R7. Hopefully it's not compulsory or automatic, although the way VM does things I can't see them effectively exerting control like that.

I should add that so far in the week she's been using it, she hasn't reported a lick of trouble with it. However, she doesn't use it anywhere near as heavy as I do, doesn't install software or play games, and her primary use for the phone is, gasp, making phone calls.

OK.... i took what PxToro was trying and i am able to get the port to stay open for a few minutes... here is what i did. I made copies of a 1 meg mp3 and place about 2 gigs worth of them on the memory card. I then used the media player that came with the phone and with the USB cable disconnected went to "Artists" after it starts scanning, I plugged the USB cable in, and windows detected the phone. The port will stays open until it is done scanning the MP3's. doing this i was able to get about 4 minutes of "play" time....

the LG update software is also able to detect the phone during this time

The problem i have is i do not know what phone to pick in BITPIM.. i tried "other CDMA" on COM5, but it just continues to scan for the phone on COM5 and COM6...

Anyone have any ideas?

i tried this but used the demo version of cdma workshop. i was able to read the spc lock code. it didnt work right away though. i was playing around trying to get bitpim to read the file system, over and over (usb connection only lasted 1 min max), then finally gave up and tried cdma ws. i had the port settings already set up and just clicked connect, then quickly clicked the read button under 'spc/user lock' on the security tab, and it worked. i dont know why it worked, earlier in the day i tried the same thing and got an error message. anyway, i went to the ##port# menu, entered the code, enabled 'dm mode' and now the phone sitting here with the all three connections open (modem, serial port, gps) while i type this.

I have two touches and we can use one of them however needed for experimenting, testing, whatever. Even opening and preforming hardware mods for battery, antenna, whatever.

I'm actually an embedded electronics specialist (among other things).

Can you open it up and take a few high res images of the insides for me? Make sure the text on the chips are readable, of course! I doubt I can find anything worth modding, but just in case . . .

I only got one phone, so don't want to break anything open . . .

You are so welcome! I 1st discovered it by using blueftp, but that froze the phone way too much for our purpose. Media player seems to occupy the phone just enough to sneak by its defenses. Ive been waiting for some help on this matter cause it seemed I was alone. Thanks for all your hard work!

Hey guys, Im in the middle of carefully opening up the rumor touch to see the insides. Also, i had an idea. Is there an analyzing program that we can use to run a diagnostic on the phone/explore the phone we havent thought of yet?
I stumbled upon USBlyzer and opened it up. When connected, it sees the mass storage part of the phone. But, when you turn the phone off, it reads the GPS port, Serial port, and Modem port. Can someone play around with this program? Bruce?

When I download and unpack the zip files you guys post of apps, it just shows a reaguler file with no extension. I try to give it a .jar extension but it doesn't work.

How do you get it to unpack as a .jar file?
