Hey guys,
Good news
I used the turbo sim. it works. But I just found a threads the someone broke the code.
Go here to do it for yourself. I did Unlock my phone successfully. I don't use the Turbo sim any more.
It's a little more technical.

Here is my simpler instructions:
1. Root your phone
a) Download the update.zip file below
b) Connect your phone to the computer
Use the USB connection as Mass Storage option in order to access the internal SD
c) Copy the update.zip file to your cell phone internal SD
d) Disconnect your phone from the computer
e) Power off the phone
f) Press and hold the volumn button of the phone while power on.
You will get the main reset menu. If not repeat step f)
g) use the volumn button to scroll down to "Reinstall Package'
Press the power button to select
Your phone will perform the rooting and reboot
2. Install SDK in order to obtain the unlock code for your phone which is embedded in the nv_data.bin file stored on the internal SD.
a) Go here to down load the SDK:
http://developer.android.com/index.html
b) Click and download the "SDK Starter Package"
c) Unzip to c:\SDK
You also need to install the driver for your Captivate so windows can recognize it.
d) Go here to down load the driver.
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/m...il&tab=support
Click Software then download and install the driver. Do not connect your phone.
e) Power on your phone go to Settings>Applications>Development
Turn on USB Debugging
f) Connect your phone to the computer.
3. Copy the nv_data.bin
a) Run CMD (DOS command)
b) CD C:\SDK\tools (the folder you unzip the SDK program)
c) Type: adb shell (all lower case) enter
d) su
e) cat /efs/nv_data.bin >> /sdcard/nv_data.bin
this command will copy the nv_data.bin file to your internal SD and is visible when you connect and mount it as Mass Storage.
4. Disconnect your phone
Go to settings and turn off the USB debugging
5. Connect your phone again and mount the internal SD as a Mass Storage drive
6. You will see the nv_data.bin file.
Copy it to a local drive.
7. Run the Hex editor ( I also attached below)
9. Open the nv_data.bin
10. Search for ssnv you will get your 8 digit unlock codes
see the sample picture attached
Done. Your phone is unlock

OK, just picked up my captivate from AT&T yesterday. it is running version 2.1-Update1 (I897UCJH7).
I have tried all methods i have found to retrieve the unlocked codes.
I have verified the only lock is the SIM-lock.
Could AT&T have further enhanced the protection of this file in this firmware version?
With the "easy" methods, no codes come back, and error is stated that the file "nv_data.bin" is not found. With the hard method (using terminal) error code comes back as "access denied" to /efs/.
Any suggestions ?
Ok I am currently with Verizon and I am getting a captivate for free from my uncle. How do i unlock it so i can use it on the verizon network? Please someone help me out : )
