    Droid X in Canada

I was wondering if it's possible to unlock/flash the Droid X from the US to work with the CDMA networks in Canada like Bell or Telus?

I'm reading a lot of mixed answers on the net, some are saying it's possible, some are saying it's not.

Some people are saying that you can get it to work by getting some kind of ESN # from your Canadian CDMA network carrier and directly link that up to your Droid X.

Another thing I'm hearing is that, you can get it to work in Canada with one of the CDMA networks, but only voice will work and not 3G. Can someone share their opinion or real experience with this?

I'd like to get this phone right now if it's possible. I don't mind going through some hassle to get it to work.

    Thanks.

Telus is not CDMA, its GSM. I use the Telus Milestone here in the states on ATT, which is a GSM network.

I realize the milestone is quadband and with work with TMO as well.. but no the X will not work on Telus, because it is GSM, and those require a sim-card as the other does not.

But yeah you could use it on bell. Just order it directly from the manufactrer, or strike a deal with someone on here like i did, then get on ebay & get the unlock code, then go activate the phone with your carrier.

-If you decide to do it, PM me. The place i used to unlock my phone was only 6-USD and took about 20 minutes for the code to be sent.

Telus and Bell have both CDMA and HSPA networks. Unfortunately they will not register a USA CDMA device on their network like the Droid or Droid X. I have verified this with Telus directly as I was considering buying an unlocked Droid instead of the Milestone which I currently have.

CDMA works much differently than HSPA.

It is theoretically possible and I believe you can do it, but it will take a lot of research because it involves cloning your current phone's ESN (which is considered illegal and thus is pretty hush hush here on HF).

Plus, chances are that you'll have to pay a guru to do that for you in addition to buying the phone and importing it - so the cost of such a project would be much much higher than simply settling for a Telus device.

I'm with you though - the Droid X is a killer phone and it would be sweet to get it running with the unlimited $15.

Probably better to just wait for the world version to come out in a few weeks/months/years.
