Thumbs up TELUS Student Plan 40 + INQ Chat 3G: Your Status is EPIC™

Since some frogs may not share my sense of humour, I am refrained from another satirical examination of daily events. But it does not stop TELUS to take on the EPIC™ status for some of its loyal clients with the much deserved recognition... Student Plan 40 + INQ Chat 3G

I saw the INQ with Student 40 plan ad at a dealership today, thought it was put out a day early but ok.

The 100mb data plan is meant for feature phones. This INQ Chat 3G seems to be half feature phone and half smartphone in it's design. It looks like a smartphone and has some built in apps similar to what you would find on a smartphone but it's a proprietary OS like a feature phone and the built in apps are pretty much all you can expect to ever use on the thing. Not sure how much of a data hog this phone will be but I think Telus should do well with the thing.

But which way will the whole Student plan and INQ phone fall on the Epic scale, I'm not sure.

I don't think it's an epic Fail but not exactly an epic win either. You cannot increase that 100MB of data either, you must change plans if you want to get more data on that plan. Maybe some people will twist the arm of loyalty and get 5GB bonus data added for 5.1GB in total, that would make it an Epic Win.

100MB would be good for a feature phone, practically unlimited for that purpose but it may be too little for their target market. If anyone wants more than average amounts of data it would be a student market.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

In my opinion, I think it is a great deal, lets do the math compared to other carriers and retention plans and in market plans:

200 mins - most plans come with 100 mins + 10$ for additional 100 mins
    6pm calling - usually 7$
Fav 10 nationwide - not available with most plans or as an add on (Fav5 Nationwide costs normally 15$)
Unlimited text - Most carries don't include MMS + Video usually 10 - 15$ option
100 MB data - most carriers offer 50 MB at 15$ through retentions

    Just add in CID

I think it is a win win plan if we look at it that way. Only thing that I personally don't like about this plan is that there is no BIS option, this would be a killer plan for most peeps on Blackberry and decent for the occasional data user.
