    Another Desire Thread...How to root!

For those struggling with rooting your Desire, it's now done! Process takes approx. 30~ mins depending on if you're flashing a custom radio/rom etc.

So with the HTC Desire officially launching in Canada last week, you are probably asking yourself "How do I root this thing". Well we have the answer for you.

First of all, to make sure your desire is compatible with this, you must verify your bootloader is 0.83.xxx. To do so, turn off your Desire fully. Now hold the back button, and press the power to bootup. You should boot into recovery and be able to see what your bootloader is.

    Step 1:
Download unrevoked, see: http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desi...ur-htc-desire/, or follow the mini steps below once you've downloaded the package

    Unrevoked Mini Steps:
    Check it out:

Let me know if there any improvements/additions you would like!

    Thanks

P.S. I successfully rooted and flashed the rom Sunday morning at 5am lol... Will try to update the guide with step by step screenshots soon.

For those asking, I ran LeeDroid via xda.

Do you lose any data when you root?

Did it and worked fine. Is there a way to unroot if I wanted to do the OTA update to 2.2 when it's out? Is there a Telus Desire RUU available?

Nope, just make sure to change your APN settings as per helpful note #2 in the guide.

You don't have to unroot, but you can just reflash down to a stock 2.1 eclair rom, in which you can upgrade to the OTA 2.2 again. Keep in mind though, once this process is done your phone will be unrooted again. I'm personally more comfortable with the custom roms as once 2.2 is out, someone developer will create a more effecient and faster rom.

    Here you go:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...72&postcount=1

This puts everything back to stock, you can just download HTC Sync and make sure your phone has Sync set as the connected option, open up the RUU file and voila back to stock.

If you get any issues (black screen then error), simply unplug the phone and plug it back in and run again.

Goodluck! Let me know how it goes. And remember, when your screen goes black from installing radio/rom, let it sit there for a good 10~ mins.

Rolling 2.2 Leedroid after a guide from XDA, makes the phone [which is already great] even better.

Umm.... not good. I may have bricked ... EDIT: I got it to boot back up again. Not sure if everything went smooth yet; but I'll update you later.

EDIT2: everything seems to have worked except for that on Step 8 of the mini revoked steps, the phone rebooted but then gave me the black screen of death. Power buttons did nothing, I had to remove the battery once to get it to power up again. But I do have Super User permissions app installed so it's rooted!
