EDIT2: everything seems to have worked except for that on Step 8 of the mini revoked steps, the phone rebooted but then gave me the black screen of death. Power buttons did nothing, I had to remove the battery once to get it to power up again. But I do have Super User permissions app installed so it's rooted!
Blackscreen of death is normal, it should go black for a few minutes or so. It's not really BSOD but rather its doing something in behind the scenes lol

Same thing happened to me when I did it. Waited about 10 minutes, then I had to pull the battery to get it to boot back up. But it's now rooted fine so I guess it worked. It did say Done in the Unrevoked window.

Yep, same issue - Unrevoker said it was done but my phone was black for at least 10-15 minutes before I finally decided to try taking the battery out (got pretty nervous that it had bricked). Perhaps you were using Windows 7 64 bit?

Seems that the black screen issue is common:

Apparently it's cause the Clockwork recovery rom doesn't support the SLCD screen. Here is the supposed fix, I have yet to try:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748618

But that doesn't explain why it would work for some of us and not for others?

Yeah it didn't work for me, I had to use the custom SLCD image also.
    Thats the million dollar question.

I just tried it, works perfectly. Just remember start with your USB unpluged, run the "reflash.exe" first, then select your recovery image, then plug in your phone. I already had the phone plugged in from the last flash and it started the whole flash process all over again. No damage, just had to wait it out, pull the battery when it was finished and start again.

I ran Unrevoked again, but this time with ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1 SLCD. I didn't have to pull the battery this time because when it was finished I was able to see the screen. Now it's working fine and showing the recovery screen. Thanks Redsmurf.

You guys that installed LeeDroid v1.8, did you flash the radio from the xda-developers post:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724123

I believe that the radio version was 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20. I just don't have ROM Manager installed and wanted to confirm the radio version before I flashed it.

    I was wondering the same:
Do we need to upgrade the radio?

Everything that I have read has pointed to this being the newest radio for the HTC Desire. I saw a couple of 5.09.00.xx radios available on the ROM Manager app, but nothing newer than the one I posted in the link. I just wanted to make sure that this radio was compatible with the Telus HTC Desire. I haven't read anywhere that it wasn't, so I will probably just go ahead and flash it.

Upgrading to the newest radio will ensure all features work (i.e. camcorder, camera, etc.). I've flashed to it an no problems so far.

Does your phone now report itself as a model A8181?
