I applied the update while rooted and it removed the root. But as mentioned above, the easyroot app available through unstable apps fixed this. Rooted again with a simple click.

As for the update, its supposed to fix that random reboot thing. Moto preloaded it on my phone for me for testing purposes since my phone was one of those that would reboot. No reboots in a couple of weeks.

If you didn't have any problems before you probably won't even notice a thing.

I applied this update via the G.O.T. leaked SBF a while ago. At the time I stopped being able to access protected apps in the Market. So I restored a backup of my build.prop from the prior Telus 2.1 and all was well. To those who have upgraded: Can you see protected apps still in the Market? (e.g. A Online Radio is one that I search for to judge this)

Now regarding root. If you reapply the vulnerable recovery SBF using RSDLite, then your phone will be able to accept an update.zip that lets you apply root (such as OpenRecovery).

Yes the one-click root exists now too using a different exploit. But it won't help you make nandroid backups, which are very useful for Milestone rooters!
i'm trying to apply an update.zip after flashing the vulnerable recovery SBF from this guide:
    http://androidforums.com/all-things-...oot-guide.html

upon booting in recovery mode and trying to apply it i get
    Code:
    verifying update package...
E:EOCD Marker occurs after start of EOCD
    E:signature verification failed
    Installation aborted
    any ideas?

cmstlist, did you know under the G.O.T. menu, there is an option to "Customize the build.prop". This helped protected apps to appear. I also use 'A Online Radio' as a test :-)

Best $2.99 I ever spent! One click to root.
    Waste of money

If you download the OpenRecovery (+ flash the vulnerable recovery), you can root it AND make nandroid backups/restores, all for free.

I highly recommend AGAINST using the G.O.T. OpenRecovery unless you're a power user... There are many items in the G.O.T. menu that can be very destructive to your phone. If you choose "customize the build.prop" it'll overwrite the one you already have now irretrievably.

    I should've been more specific: I recommend skrilax_cz OpenRecovery v1.14.

If flashing the vulnerable recovery only is failing after this update, perhaps try flashing the G.O.T. SBF for Telus? It's the same update but with the vulnerable recovery already included.

If you do a Nandroid Backup of your phone (even before rooting), then you should be fine if you screw up. I agree, the GOT OpenRecovery is for advanced user, whereas the SriLax one is more basic (GOT's is actually based off that one). In GOT, some of the settings don't work as they should, but basic rooting and nandroid is fine.

I had to make my own scripts for overclocking, apps2sd, etc. I have JIT and apps2d working in mine. Overclocked the Milestone to 1.05GHz @ vsel 64 (stablest so far). I had 1.1 GHz but it was a bit hot. The Cortex A8 CPU itself is spec'ed as 600-1000Mhz, so theoretically 1 GHz should be fine without worrying about damage.

If anyone else has this problem i fixed it...

After flashing vulnerable recovery sbf and RSD lite reboots the phone i had to boot into bootloader mode without letting the phone boot normaly first. RSD lite will still register a pass once in bootloader mode. Then restarted the phone in recovery mode and update.zip ran no problem and phone is rooted once again.

I got Easyroot but it didn't do jack for me. Easyroot says I am rooted, but all other programs tell me I am not. I've easyrooted and rebooted several times.

    Take a look here:

    Free, ridiculously simple (one click).

    Hi,

Is there any feedback on the Milestone update so far? Does it introduce any new problems?

Also, I'm pretty new to rooting. Is there a comparison between using EasyRoot vs GOT OpenRecovery, and any of the other methods?

I'm mostly interested in overclocking my Telus Moto Milestone, and perhaps changing some of the startup apps (removing voice dial, corporate calendar, etc). Which method would you recommend for me?

I have experience with Linux, but, no experience with rooting

    Thanks!

Working like a charm, Thanks for this.

Had the same problem after the update. After it says you've successfully rooted, hit the menu key. Do a force Re-Root. Solved all my issues. Now I can root and unroot again.

Ah, I didn't find the re-root option in Easyroot, but this program (which is also free) asked me if I wanted to when I clicked root. So it won for being a no-brainer.

I'll keep both around in hopes of having to root again if/when we get 2.2

knowthenazz - the new update seems fine. On my milestone call quality seems improved when using it without a headset, which is great. The music player still starts after removing headphones, but it no longer loads and begins playing EVERY music program on my phone, just the last one I used, so it doesn't take nearly as long to stop the dang music - I count that as a small victory.

So far the biggest thing for me was the addition of Thai fonts, because I often receive thai sms and facebook messages.

I mostly use root to over and under-clock using setcpu and "milestone overclock". The phone performs better (at 800mhz) and battery life is the same or better because I have it switch to 125mhz when the screen is off. I also run adfree. I haven't played with changing the startup programs, though I would like to, and remove some of the default programs I don't use.

Strange that you're still getting the headphone/music start issue. It stopped completely for me on the new firmware. Sometimes it puts out a tiny "blip" of music and then stops itself.

    Hi Lleviathan,

Thanks for your feedback on the update. There hasn't been much reported about the update so far...perhaps that's a good thing

Glad you're seeing at least some improvements.
