let you know what this update does in 5-15 min

so far (havent started the updateing yet) its installing a shiv load of LG USB "bla(different each installation)" MODEM..'s

so before i click start update im gonna see if i can connect to my phone from my comp

and so far i still cant click update..

seemed to install quite a few drivers.. if it can connect to do a firmware update, there must be a way to access the phone via USB. this could be the way in for tethering.

well even after it installed all the necessary drivers, it still wasnt able to update.. so far im 2 updates behind now, all because VM locked the modem of the phone.. mines VM510PR5 the newest update is VM510PR7... has anyone else been able to install the new firmware?

hah, well that's really funny. virgin has the phone locked up so tight that not even the manufacturer knows how to get the **** back into it.

Darn. I should have known better than to get my hopes up.

If LG can't update our phones, will VM ever issue firmware or software updates? Have they ever in the past?

this phones s/w and h/w are out of date and VM needs to do something about it... i would call VM if i was a calm person discussing issues that the provider needs to fix... if i did call they'd hang up on me as soon as i started speaking... im not to polite to them over the phone... thats why i want to meet a VM rep in person, but what kind of business would set up a meeting with a 17 year old to discuss the many many problems of VM?

Perhaps it can detect unauthorized software on the phone and therefore considers the user's right to an update void? Just a thought. I haven't got my Rumor Touch yet, should have it within a few days. When I receive it I will try to update it, but I have a feeling it won't work out very well.

I tried to update too, but the phone is not recognized by the computer with ought the SD card. The drivers don't do anything.

haha nightstalkr, im right there with you. im 16 and every freaking time i call, they say theyll escalate whatever issue i have, and then nothing happens in the 24-72 hours they guarantee.

yea VM screwed us over by locking it down this hard.. i mean if we cant even update it and there's a LGVM510 update... we're sol big time.. oh and i found something out bought the MSL issue... VM doesnt have all of them, LG has most of the codes which is why VM says they dont have the info. LG has to send the code to VM and then if we keep calling back and hassling them for it they will eventually ask LG for it then a few days later VM will have it. but i also read that the MSL wont really get us anywhere because its not the MSL that unlocks the phone.. its removing the locking software that unlocks it... all we can do with the MSL is access a few extra menus. we need to find out how to remove the locking software befor we can progress anymore. and that is really crappy news too. i heard that there are services on ebay that can unlock the phone... but then again i dont wanna have to pay to remove something that shouldnt of been there in the first place... so its the joint effort of LG and VM that screwed us over
