Android OS upgrade for the Magic???

Ok, I know it's been discussed a lot...

Anyone knows if the 2.1 is coming form the Magic?

I'm debating between waiting for a good upgrade for my Magic, or switch to the iPhone 4????

Still being with 1.5 keeps us having good apps...

Anyway...I'm a bit dissapointed that Google & Rogers don't do anything good for us, who have phones that are good, but still working with an ''out-of-date'' OS...

Just wondering here

I've heard of updates coming, but I don't know when it would arrive. Rumours have mentioned this summer and that Rogers has a copy of 2.1 for testing. But if I worked at Rogers in this area, I'd want to get 2.2 on it instead of 2.1 which is now "dated" since 2.2 has been out for a while. I'm actually a tad disappointed that my new Desire didn't have 2.2 on it when I bought it earlier this week. But I'm still happy with 2.1.

I wouldn't use an iPhone now that I've been spoiled by Android.

If you're unsure about the Magic, you might like the Samsung Captivate which is coming sometime in the next few weeks. Google the phone for details.

The question is, how would the Magic run v2.1? And now that FroYo 2.2 is out, it makes sense to simply update directly to 2.2 as it's much faster than 2.1 thanks to the new compiler, and adds more features. Maybe that's why it's taking so long for the update to arrive?

Wouldn't it be nice if carriers actually told us what's going on?

Yes, it is a drag that Rogers is supporting this phone so poorly. It is reported that they are aiming to release 2.1 in August. It is quite possible that they will never release 2.2.

Rooting it and putting Cyanogen's 2.2 would solve the problem but rooting it is not simple. Someone could make a good business rooting the Magic for people.

I think the Desire and the Captivate are great phones, but they aren't really replacements for the Magic - they are quite a bit bigger. The closest thing to a replacement is probably the Legend (only sold by Bell).

The iPhone is inferior in many ways, much more expensive in the long run, and their jail is insulting, but they sure have got a better upgrade process.
