HELP ME IN MY QUEST to find: Which Boost Mobile phones tether??
Hello you good people of howardforums. Once again I am reaching out to you! I hope you can help me out. I need you to tell me which Boost phones can and will tether and where I can get the drivers. For the short while that I have known about tethering I was under the impression that only quote nice unquote phones would tether, such as phones with full browsers and touchscreens and all that jazz. I guess you can tell I really don't know much about phones. That's true! I got my first phone when I graduated from highschool 1 year ago. Since then I've had 6 phones! All in the pursuit of seeking the perfect one for me. I thought I had the perfect one until I found out I can't tether it because of a firmware problem or somethin like that. Anyway enough about me.
Wanted to tether, couldn't.
Met cool peoples on Howard Forums.
My dream has come true.
Thanks guys! :
None. Boost Mobile has blocked the ability to tether with their phones. This is one of the main reasons they've been sticking with 1xRTT phones.
Now, there is a program called Tether{Berry} you can install on the Boost 8330 that can allow you to tether to a PC via USB or Bluetooth and it does have a price... but that's probably it, unless someone has come up with a way to do the same thing with the Rant.
Other than that... nope.
Boost phones would use what is called PAM (Phone As Modem) and this is non-functional.
Ok, for some reason I could'nt post everything I wanted to say at one time. So what I was saying is, I need you to tell me what phones you have tethered with Boost Mobile and where you found the driver stuff. It need not be a nice phone. Lol. I jus need to know what will work. Thank you, you're freaking awesome!
Like DT said, none of the "boost" phones can tether out of the box, you can go the route of the blackberry, or you could consider bringing in a Sprint Windows Mobile phone since they have internet sharing built in to the OS.
For Example Sprint WinMo Phones:
HTC Touch
HTC Touch Diamond
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch Pro2
HTC Mogul
Motorola Q9c
Samsung Intrepid
But Keep in mind that boost doesn't condone tethering, and if you decide to use it remember its not a good alternative to having a home ISP. Unlimited data doesn't mean unreasonable.
Left Virgin for Helio and all it had to offer... Only to get "acquired" back to virgin again... slowly loosing everything I switched for. Then came a light at the end of the tunnel when we got "acquired" yet again by sprint... sadly they brought us nothing and took from us everything, so as the ship sank I stayed aboard and then on the 23rd I quickly ported over to boost... and I'm the happiest I've ever been.
RIP HELIO... you were set-up to fail but it was fun while it lasted.
Ok, so as I stated I really don't know much about phones, so would you recommend I do? I'm trying to keep my phone bill below 80 dollars. I don't need talk time as I rarely talk on the phone, but I don't wanna pay 50 cents per minute if I decide to if you know what I mean. LOL. What can I do? Who will let me tether and where can I find this Boostberry stuff? I'm clueless, help me! Help me! Thanks!
